hello mellow

Mm... I don't know why I'm feeling very melancholy these days and at the same time, my imagination practically runs wild and free, and these ideas of making surreal and impossible stories that reflect my life keep coming.

Actually it all began with the good news that came that day. I know, I should've been ecstatic in response to that. So guess what the good news is:

I was accepted to Art and Design major of Binus International University, achieving the first rank.

Ha, there it goes.
I know it sounds fascinating, even if for a girl who aims to study in that major. However there are some reasons why I should have been excited to respond to that good news:
1. I'm into general art, not into specific fields of arts such as graphic design, fine art, multimedia, photography, etc. I just love arts in general. Seeing Binus International offers a major that studies all of them, including graphic design, fine arts, history of arts, multimedia, and everything, I feel like I should really apply to that major, which thankfully, I ended up getting accepted.

2. I applied to the international program, which offers its students to continue their studies abroad in the second or third year. So basically I'll spend a year here, in Indonesia, which means I still have plenty of time to spend with my family and friends.

3. I got the first rank, for God's sake. It offers lower tuition free than the rest of the ranks. It's like...getting a scholarship, only different.
Tough decision right?

While in the other side, I was also accepted to DeAnza College far away in San Jose, California, which promises wider and broader opportunities and vacancies as a designer than in Jakarta.

Well, I'm a pretty family person. So you can imagine how it feels like if I'm away from my parents. Imagine how homesick I'll feel if I'm away later on, off to study abroad. Hmmfff....

Actually I've been observing the amount of students studying abroad too, which turns out, most of them (well, actually all of them as far as I'm concerned) have at least a brother or sister already residing at the particular country. So I'm sure those students won't feel lonely or homesick anymore. Even if they do, they always have these shoulders to lean on, which belong to their siblings.

While I'm the only child in the family, and I do have a cousin living and working in New York. But California to New York? Wow, that takes like six hours of flight, doesn't it?

Humm...I don't know just yet. I'm currently torn between two choices. Really, I envy those fictional characters that have this ability to duplicate themselves. I wonder if it really happened, maybe the original me will have to choose to study in Binus and tells my duplicate to go to California in the other hand.

Ah never mind. Haha.

Also, this Monday, I finally get to go to Singapore, with a couple of friends.
Unfortunately I didn't get the same departure flight with them. I got the departure flight two hours late from theirs, which means, I'm going to have to go through all the procedures in the airport, paying all the airport tax, ON MY OWN!

Boy, my mom and dad really determine to drill me to be independent. -_- But anyway, it's going to be my first abroad trip without my parents. Hopefully I'll get to learn something new at least :)

Holiday Cooking Project: Bibimbap

FINALLY
I got to cook bibimbap yesterday, with the guidance of Ehow recipe that I printed out!
The final result looks quite awful. I don't know how Korean people will react to my version of Bibimbap, because, to be honest, I've never tasted the real Bibimbap just yet.

Just looking at the pictures on internet are enough to make me drool or at least I get the picture of how it looks like. Basically it looks like a normal mixed rice, except that you put in loads of soysauce and sesame oil just to make it tastier.

These are the ingredients to make Bibimbap:

Sesame Oil and 3/4 cup of soysauce
I didn't know which type of soysauce the recipe meant, but I just went with the salty one

Vegetables
In this case, I chose shredded carrots, bean sprouts, enoki mushrooms, cabbages, and shitake mushrooms.

And the rest are basically meat (you can choose either beef, chicken, or pork, but in this case, I chose chicken instead) and two eggs. No need of the pictures. You get the idea, at least, don't you? Actually you can also replace meat with tofu if that's possible.

Since this is my first time experimenting with food that I've never tasted before, and I've only seen through pictures on the internet, I decided to depend myself in a whole to the recipe. So basically I just did what was said in the recipe.

In addition, the recipe said: MODERATELY EASY for the level of cooking Bibimbap.

So here's how to make it :)

Step 1: First I heated the sesame oil with half of the 3/4 cup of soysauce to the skillet.

Step 2:
Then I put in the vegetables, mixed it with preferable meat. Then I broke the two eggs and sizzled it, just like making scrambled egg.

Note: In my case, I decided to add monosodium glumatate (like Sasas or Ajinomoto) and a small amount of salt, just in case the soysauce and the sesame oil didn't work quite enough.

Step 3: Last but not least, I put the cooked vegetables aside and took a bowl of rice. It depends on the amount of portions you want to make. Then, I placed the mixed vegetables on top of the rice.

VOILA!!
맛있는 (Delicious) or not? Hehe, you decide

I really need to go to a Korean restaurant to get the real taste of the real Bibimbap. T_T

Kota Tua Tour

A quality post! Finally!!

This early May, my friends and I decided to fill out our leisure time by going on tour to Kota Tua. Fascinating indeed. I've been there before, last year on my school's city tour, but I'm excited to finally get a chance of going there again.

We took a busway ride from Blok M terminal to Kota (downtown) in the morning. It took a while me to find the terminal though, since it turned out to be located underground. WTH.

Arriving at Kota, we quickly found our ways to our first museum which was Museum Bank Mandiri. Seriously, since all buildings there looked the same, we almost mistook Museum Bank Mandiri as Museum Bank Indonesia. Well, I recommended my friends to visit Museum BI, since it was very cutting-edge with all the modern technology equipped to display the exhibits.

Anyway, we entered Museum Bank Mandiri eventually.
The admission is free :)

The museum was effin' hot and thus, we got all sweaty inside. The fan set in the room didn't even help. So the point is, to be honest, the museum was boring and dusty too. -__-

In the other side, the museum was quite exciting as well, since it got many, many rooms for exhibits and interesting items from the past, ranging from rooms that resembled a jail (there were only four of us entering the quiet room, so you can imagine all the spook) to an auditorium filled with woods and stuffs from the past. They might look like normal woods and metals, but they all dated back to the year of forty-something! Cool.

Not to mention nice objects and hallways as photography objects. Turned out we were busy snapping pictures likely we were having some sort of photoshoot instead of observing the exhibits.

Haha, I honestly love this picture above. See the way my friend Widya (on the lower part of the stairs) stares at Agnes. I feel the sparks of...well, forget it. LOL

Oh, did I mention that the mention even got a mini playground!

And you know the best part is...

We found a separate room, a dining room to be exact, complete with vintage-y looking chairs and huge rectangular table. The whole dining set was said to belong to a noble back in the past.

But no, it wasn't the dining set that we were excited to see. At the corner of the room, there was this other thing that excited us. Not another historical item. You see this everyday and maybe you have it in your house. It was...AC. Yeah, we were that desperate to find fresh air in the damp museum, and when we found that AC, we all felt very...safe at last. LOL.

Holy AC!

I told my friends that Museum Bank Indonesia was much more interesting than this museum. So we finally moved on to the next museum, which was located right next to Museum Bank Mandiri.

Once the automatic door (heck, it's got an automatic sliding door!!) opened, the cool air from the inside blasted through us. The entire room was equipped with AC!!

The admission is, again, free. This is the museum that I once visited back in October 2009 (I'll be sure to post the story of my city tour later). The first time I went to that museum, my jaw dropped in both excitement and disbelief. The fact is, I've never ever visited a museum so cutting-edge with all modern technology! That was back in October. But now, I felt like a tour guide leading several friends who hadn't been here before.

I kind of expected to watch a movie in its theatre that was located once we entered the exhibition room, since I skipped that part last time. But too bad, the movie wasn't playing at that moment, so I had to skip it again.

The whole museum tour began with fun! Before we entered the theatre, there was this dark room with projectors reflecting on the wall, displaying flying pennies. If we got to catch one of them by our bare hands on the wall, the details about the penny would appear.

The exhibition room was set likely a maze, with sounds, animations, colorful rooms, and everything was designed based on the chronology of our nation's story. Started from 15th century, exactly on Portuguese colonial, and moving to the present.

Approaching the end of the maze, we stumbled upon a game where we had to drag animated letters to form a word. We were even helped by this nice security guy.

Overall, I love this museum! So...cool (hehe, I'm talking about the atmosphere) and sight-refreshing! It wasn't like any other museums whose exhibits were dusty and damp or anything. Just love it!

After our visit to Museum Bank Indonesia, we had lunch nearby, catching sights of Japanese tourists which excited my friend :) Then we got back to our Blok M and went back home. It was such a fun day! Can't wait for another non-mall tour with my friends.

Charlie's Angels much?

Hollaback!

It's been a while. So hello guys!!! Yes, finally I'm back blogging with the fresh new layout courtesy of DeluxeTemplates.net. Just decided to change the layout since I'm pretty bored with the previous yet customized Minima Black. A little change would do, wouldn't it? I long for bright, more professional looking layouts, so that's why.

Um...actually I have loads of things to share to y'all, like some more new stories plus the pictures. But since I don't have lots of time blogging right now, maybe I'm going to post more about my latest activities in details later on. The point is, I've been really busy nowadays that I could hardly handle my small graphic designing business. This whole other kind of 'business' I had was a bit too distracting and even nowadays I'm mostly not at home.

This week has been the busiest so far. Last Friday, my friend and I went to Setiabudi building for some movie day. Started out with DVD hunting which took place in a small DVD store. I ended up buying three of them :)

And yesterday, I attended Dian Sastro's wedding. Yes, that actress. My uncle got invited but he was abroad, so my aunt and cousins decided to represent him by attending the posh wedding party. We were like completely strangers to the actress, her husband, her family, and to attendees there. I'll post the story later with sadly-low quality pictures.

Today, I took a Binus International Entrance Test for Batch 7, likely it was the last batch. The test wasn't bad. Since I aimed for Art and Design major, I was required to take three tests which consist of: drawing test, entrance test (boy, the Math was bloody hard), and an interview.

I'm still not so sure whether I'm going abroad or not. If I get accepted to Binus, I'll probably cancel all my studying abroad plans, and if not, then I'll go to the US. Still, I'll cross my fingers, since Binus is said to have the best Art and Design major in Jakarta. I pity the fact that state universities don't have the major I exactly wanted to take.

Holiday's still so loooooongg....

But I do have some travel plans.

Later on June, I'm going to Taiwan with my cousin for a homestay. This is confirmed. To be honest I don't know much interesting places there. Hopefully the tour is promising so I'll get excited about it :)

My mom's planning to go to New York with her sisters. Her sisters are going to pay for the trip and they kind of asked me to join it too.

NEW YORK!!!! ONE OF THE CITIES I'D KILL TO GO TO!!!!

That's after Seoul, Tokyo, Scotland, London, and Paris :)

My mom's effin' lucky. If only the graduation and prom were held earlier than June, say like this May, I would probably join the trip. I'm really in the mood of traveling now, well, wherever the destination is. My first purpose would be finding good objects to be snapped in a picture, and speaking of New York, I could imagine myself taking a picture of its skyline and skycrapers....

Okay, so that's my mom's travel plan. As for me, I'm still stuck with the whole Taiwan homestay thing. Gotta learn more Chinese.

Also, I'm planning to go to Singapore. My aunt's staying there at the moment. Maybe I'll leave next week on my own. But I'm still not sure about that. Hopefully some of my friends will be there and thus we can hang out together or probably go to UNIVERSAL STUDIOS!!

Enough with chit chat tonight. Still have some more videos to watch now. Ciao!

What would you think about...

Hey guys, there's a poll up on the left sidebar. Yes, I'm thinking about changing my layout. Possibly you've been bored about reading in the dark layout with all bright texts and wish for a light layout instead. Please let me know if you're uncomfortable. But if you're comfortable enough and want me to keep on blogging in this layout, that'd be alright :). Probably I'll be doing little layout changing like changing the pink colors to something else more exciting, and the banner too.

Anyway, please do vote for the layout, though one day, I wish I could make my own layout like the ones in Bloggertemplates.com and such. That'd be really great, yeah :D

Paper Doll

Hey there!! How're you guys doing?

Say konnichiwa to Momoko!
(Momo = peach; Ko = girl)

She's a washi ningyou that I made quite a while ago my Japanese class.
Yes, I tend to name things even if it's a cute inanimated object or artwork

Instead of using the real paper customized for these traditional dolls we used a wrapping paper since we were beginners ourselves, which you can tell from the funny blue patterned obi which contains a picture of wheels.

The making didn't take quite long, around an hour especially if you're capable in hand's speed. All we did were just cutting the wrapping papers into many small squares, with various sizes, and the rest were just another cutting stuff and folding things, and last but not least was painting the doll's face.

Voila, and Momoko's ready to be on display!

Annyeonghaseyo!!

How I friggin' miss these moments :D

Yes, I've been to Korea before, no intending to brag about it here. No matter how I would kill to go there at these moments. No, not because of Kpop (actually, that's like the fourth or fifth reason).

It's funny, when you wish for something, it won't come true immediately, but then when we didn't wish for it, it happened, and how can I tell about that? Back in 2002, I hardly recognized what Korea was. My mom and dad just went. "We're going for a trip to Korea on Christmas."

I was like

"Where is that? Oh well, okay then." *I'm telling you, way back when, my geography skill was really lacking*

But now....I'm like.

"Pleasepleasepleaseee....take me to Korea!!! Take me thereeee.....!!!" TT__TT

What a contrast eh?

Here's our tour guide onnie, Jenny :D

Anyway took off on winter 2002 as mentioned before above, with my family and my friend's family (our families have been good friends for a long time). I don't know why but I always love winter despite people saying that summer was better (dude, we experience summer everyday here in Indonesia! We need to experience what it's like wearing layers of clothes and a thick sweater). Winter's always best with its Christmas-ish vibe, the decorations, the Christmas songs, Santa Claus, Christmas trees, and everything.

Waking up in the morning!

One of the most memorable places I visited in Korea was YongPyong. It was a ski resort that used to be the filming location of Winter Sonata. Nice place, I'm telling you, and the best feeling is when you wake up in the morning and open up the window, walk to the balcony, and you'll see this snow covered forests, houses, and roads stretching before you. What a heavenly feeling.

In front of our hotel in YongPyong resort

In the hotel's lobby with my friend's onnie

Way back in 2002, Kpop hasn't fully developed unlike these days. The people were still talking mostly about Kdramas, stuff like Winter Sonata (it was a hype, and even it lasts forever up until now!), and...speaking of Winter Sonata, for the love of God, my mom used to adore Bae Yong Joon so much!

Bae Yong Joon poster in YongPyong

Even when we went to Yongpyong and spotted a huge Winter Sonata poster there, my mom went like "Look, it's Bae Yong Joon!" I went to look up because I was very short and I thought that my mom spotted the real person (I was blocked by these tall people so I couldn't clearly see what my mom was pointing at) before I sighed in disappointment, by the fact that she only pointed on the huge poster.

Ready to go skiing in YongPyong!

Skiing with dad

Actually the first reason why I wanted to go to Korea again is...THE THEME PARK! Lotte World and Everland! I miss those places. Really.

In Everland :)

Everland was the first theme park we visited shortly after we arrived in Incheon airport. Imagine us having a jetlag and having slept all the way from the airport, then directly taken to this theme park. What a refreshing! Tours should have programs like this, where tourists are taken directly to a theme park or such shortly after arriving.

There were many rides and fun stuffs in Everland, such as swinging ship (unless this particular ship doesn't swing like any other, but instead, it flips 360 degrees, I had no guts riding on this thing back then), suspended coaster, and many other.

With a mime, shortly after watching a show

Anyway, there was this particular ride that didn't look frightening at all. So basically you board this compartment and you'll be swung like a clock, unlike the swinging ship I mentioned to you guys. It looked fine, but apparently it didn't feel the same way, every moment it fell, my heart felt like it had been left on the air. Haha. You get the idea.

Did I mention that the theme park also has a mini zoo? I don't have the picture of us in the mini zoo, but it was awesome! It got some Australian woolly sheeps, whose fur was really really smooth. I feel like running my fingers through it again and again :)w

Lotte World!!

Lotte World is another theme park, and as far as I can remember, that was our last destination before we left to Jakarta the next day. But I'm telling you, it was AWESOME! DAEBAK! I didn't know that it eventually turned out to be both an outdoor and indoor theme park, since I only visited the indoor one.

Before entering the indoor theme park attraction, you'll walk down this hallway of shops and stuffs (I'm counting on my memory right now) before you'll find yourself in a huuuuge hall with many attractions and rides in just one big hella room! I rode on Jungle Cruise and many other rides. Geez, I forget, it's been eight years, so please forgive me :)

Around 8-9 o'clock, the attractions and rides were closed due to a so-called parade and laser show. The parade was fine, with beautiful models and performers wearing traditional outfit. The laser show was the most attractive show I've ever seen.

The snowy path

Other than theme parks, we visited many, many temples with fascinating histories. Too bad I couldn't remember each names of the temples, but the sceneries were magnificent as well. The moment when I saw the snow covered the whole area, was the moment when I felt grateful to be here in Winter. Just fabulous to see everything's white.

Cute snowman, eh? Not big but we're proud of it

To get out of the temple, we took another path which was still covered by thick snow. When I said thick, I meant, real thick. It was knee-depth and you can imagine what it's like to walk through it. However, the fun thing is, when we were tired, me, my friend, and his onnie managed to make a snowman out of the thick snow.

Before the huge Buddha statue

Another destination we went to was this large Buddha statue. I didn't know the place of interest's name, once again, but it was a really great place!

So overall, Korea was a fascinating place, but I said this according to what I saw and experienced back in 2002. Oh and also, we visited in the year of World Cup, so we got to pass the stadium in Seoul, but too bad, we didn't have a chance to visit it and take a closer look.

Hopefully, I'll get to go to this country some time in the future! Hopefully soon :D

PUNK'D much?

Hey guys! How're you guys doing? I've been quite good these days. Except that today, despite the premiere of Super Junior's new MV "Bonamana" in SM's Youtube channel, I'm starting to have a monthly stomacache. Hopefully it won't go worse till the rest of the day.

Anyway, I've promised myself not to spam my blog with stuffs about Super Junior. Instead, I'm going to post about the fantastic event that just happened in my house just this weekend. I'm not really sure what to call it in Bahasa, but it's actually similar to employees getting promoted, president getting inaugurated, a queen getting coronated. You get the picture? OK, I'll go with the term "Inauguration".

So this inauguration is usually held by each school's extracurricular approaching the end of the term, in a casual form, meaning it can be held out of school. The event is actually directed towards the freshmen with stuffs, rules, and regulations organized by the seniors. Also this event isn't supposed to have twelfth graders (or graduates) like me involved. But I was willingly offering my house as a venue.

Me and my "daughter" aka successor :)

The eleventh graders

The freshmen

Okay, maybe this might sound odd to you, but this inauguration is likely different like any other that you may have heard. You know teenagers, we do not apply formal rules and regulations about what the candidates should do before being inaugurated. Instead, we have our own rules and way of holding an inauguration. No, it's not like what you've seen on Obama's inauguration.

With four out of six freshmen attended (the two of them were absent), three twelfth graders, and three eleventh graders, we started the event with games, where the four freshmen were divided into two teams.

Each was given scrambled puzzles that should be arranged. One of the team members was blindfolded and the other one was not. The task might sound easy, which was of course, to arrange the puzzle. But the challenge was, the blindfolded team member should be the one to do that, only with the direction of the other team member. The direction should be given in English, to make the game even more challenging.

The puzzle game!

Blindfolded doesn't help?

During the game, us seniors even tried to distract the freshmen by playing songs from our phones very loud and even yelled at them. All but to distract the concentrations of the girls. Poor girls.

The Biscuit Commercial dance

The next game is very funny! It's actually called " *insert name here* says". I'm sure you all get the idea. If a name is mentioned and it gives a direction to the players, they should do what the name asks. But if the direction is given without mentioning the name, the players must not do it. At first I thought it was going to be so-so, but then, when the direction was getting more extreme, it turned out effin' hilarious, especially when they had to dance a silly commercial biscuit dance on TV. They'd done a great job by imitating it in exact ways.

LUNCH TIME! :P

The freshmen were very shy! Or at least that's what I thought they were. They ate a little despite a huge plate of fries served on the table (with pizza and fried sausages too). Although I'd tried to persuade them to eat more, they were still hesitant. Aww..

We also had a random game, where each freshmen should pick a folded paper and should do the task implied there. One of them is given another "imitating" task, but good for her, she's really so darn good in imitating people. It brought us all to laughter! Another one should dance to a Kpop song and she chose to dance to SNSD's Gee. *Gee gee gee gee baby baby baby*

What else? We also played the spinning chairs, using more Kpop songs as the playlist. Geez, I have a feeling we should really establish a sub-club, KC (Korean Club)

Anyway, I don't understand why these freshmen kept their heads down and put on that blank expression all over their faces. Whatever. At least we were having fun :)

Moving on to the climax of the event, we ushered the freshmen to the yard in a unique way, by lining up in a row and closed the companion in front of them's eyes. So yes, us seniors slowly guided the freshmen with their eyes closed, towards the yard. I was pretty sure they didn't know where we were ushering them to. Anyway.

..... o_O

Arriving at the yard, another yelling session started. Don't worry. We're only acting. No intends to bully or whatsoever. Have we told you guys that we - seniors - are talented actors? (haha, so not true) But yes, we weren't yelling for real. We practically felt like actors reciting lines but this time, it was done spontaneously. After the yard-yelling session done, we ushered them to the outdoor garage for the climax.

The freshmen, still with their eyes closed, were getting yelled even more and more. But only worse. We sort of humiliated them, blamed them even though we all knew they didn't do something wrong.

The bossy lady

I had quite fun with this, not because I love yelling and sort of thing. I consider myself as a compassionate person and no, it's not that I'm thinking this subjectively but my friends do think about me the same way. Maybe they were a bit surprised that the "devil" inside me finally unleashed itself. But at least you get the picture. I love them, and I wouldn't dare to yell at them for real.

But really, I arranged my expression, pouted, and put on an angry face without the freshmen seeing it. I felt like playing an antagonist in a movie. Woohoo... But really, after I recited one or two angry lines, my expression loosened and I chuckled lightly to my friend, and I was like. "How did I do? Good enough for an amateur actress?"

I'm sure it must have felt reallllly long for the freshmen to be yelled at, because apparently I felt the same way. The freshmen didn't even move. They just stood there with their eyes closed, aching feet, and tears that ALMOST spilt. But seeing their expressions, I knew they just wanted to cry, for real.

The twelfth graders that just arrived! You're late, ladies

Finally, coming to the climax, the president's candidate was separated from the rest. The other three were splashed with water through a hose by my "daughter" or successor, yelling. "You feel hot? How about if I give you some...water?" sarcastically. But she secretly chuckled. Then, she told the three freshmen to open their aching eyes. "See your friend over there? Still with her eyes closed? Got any idea why she was separated?"

Then she directed the hose towards the separated girl and sprayed the water, announcing that the girl was separated because....she was selected as the PRESIDENT OF THE CLUB! *applause* So special treatment, I guess.

After the tense moment

The rest was just fun fun and fun. If you don't get this moment, well, try imagining a prank show. Yes, we actually pranked them. We didn't do the yelling for real. We didn't "hate" them like we told them earlier. So, more or less, it was likely a pranked show.

Imagine Punk'd or MTV's Boiling Points. The freshmen broke into what cheerful laughter (see? they finally laughed!) and the seniors went to congratulate them and re-announced their positions. The positions were divided into: president, secretary, public relation, and treasurer.

I hugged the then-separated-girl as she was officially my "granddaughter" or my successor after my successor (descendant?) and then we took some pictures (darn my camera's battery went empty just about time so I decided to use my phone's camera, whose quality is even lower than a real camera). The party was not over though. Apparently one of the eleventh graders brought a snow spray and sprayed it all over us, not just the freshmen but us the seniors. We practically scattered away of course, avoiding to get dirty.

After the fun time, the freshmen took a shower and changed their clothes. Then we moved to my room for some relaxing time. We got a warm chat, talking about anything, and no more blank expression on their faces! We had a great time for sure :)

P.S:
We held another round of inauguration what was once planned to be held in the presence of our advisor at school. But turned out he wasn't present and we just needed to inaugurate a freshman that was absent in the previous fun event.

She didn't know anything about the whole inauguration thing and the seniors told the already-inaugurated freshmen to step out of the room and allowed them to go home, leaving this poor freshman all by herself, getting yelled at all by herself. She practically curled herself there on the seat, head down and tears that began to fall. She even apologized as if she really did something wrong like what we yelled at her earlier. But the fact is, she was innocent and we all knew that. I'm sure she must be cursing us like heck in her mind.

I was like. "Ooh, no, don't cry! We're just acting!! Please stop crying!!" But she cried for freaking real!! Maybe we gave her too much pressure so we just inaugurate her at that moment, shocking her by giving a special placard decorated with her name on it, a sign that she had been inaugurated.

All in all, we got something plus from this event. We got to experience how Ashton Kutcher managed the whole Punk'd idea and even got to Punk'd people. Kekeke
