Let's Have a Bite of Those Goats, Cows, and....Turkeys

Wow, it seems that in two different days, different places, different cultures, people are celebrating an occasion with animals as trademarks!

HAPPYIDULADHA!
Fellow Moslems in the World! ^_^
Celebrated on November 27

Aww...the goat seems fine, but the cow seems to have a bad feeling that he will be slaughtered.
Goat: Slaughter me? Are you kidding? I feel cool :).
Cow: ...I haven't written my will yet.... :(

HAPPYTHANKSGIVINGDAY!
Fellow Americans! ^_^
Celebrated on November 26

This turkey wants to have a...bite of himself???
Turkey: They'll do this every year, and I'm fine with it. (same as the goat)

Holiday Getaway: Enjoying the Luxurious in just 24 hours

Yayy!! Finished with my paper!! But the torture is not over. Soon I'm going to have my term exam next week (in Indonesian, we call it: after getting out of a lion's cage, we enter the crocodile's mouth).

Anyway, in the mean time, do you feel like going out of your hectic routine and have a little relaxing time of yourself? But it's not on a holiday season? Even just for a day? Well, there's a way to experience that, and what you need is only a getaway. Avoid your hectic life! Although this kind of getaway may be considerably pricey. Actually I've done this kind of vacation before, exactly on April 2006 with my cousin and my aunt. My aunt happened to get a voucher to stay overnight in Grand Hyatt, so...why not? Besides, with a voucher, we didn't need to pay much for the accommodation.

The thought of recommending this kind of vacation to you guys about this came up when I was in Kempinski Hotel yesterday to attend a wedding. I was waiting for my mom in the lobby, walking around to enjoy the luxurious atmosphere. That was when I thought if I experienced it again, then it would be very amazing.

Right, I'm talking about spending 24 hours at a hotel, just to relax and enjoy its atmosphere and surroundings that you won't get everyday in every hectic seconds. Although this kind of vacation may sound impossible enough (only experienced by the writer, and it happened to me thanks to the luck), I thought it would be fun to share it to you guys. So, let's get started. Here's what you need to do to arrange your 24 hours "Holiday Getaway":

_____________________________

THE STEPS

1. Book a suite in a five star hotel. You can manage to stay at a hotel at anytime, but strongly recommended on the weekend (Saturday - Sunday are good choices. Holidays that fall on Monday are even better. That way you can arrange your Sunday - Monday to stay overnight).

2. The hotel must be located near a shopping center, or it'll be much better if the building is combined with the shopping center itself. The hotel must also be strategic, in a shopping/business district in Jakarta. Try Grand Hyatt, which is very close to EX or Plaza Indonesia, or Kempinski Hotel, whose building is combined with Grand Indonesia.

3. Ask your friends or family to stay with you. Actually it'd be much better if you didn't stay with your main family (like mom and dad). Cousins, aunt, uncle, grandma, grandpa are good choices. I have a good reason for this which I'll explain to you guys later.

4. Check out the hotel's nearest cinema's schedule. Yes, for those who love watching movies, you must not miss this chance!

5. Money? Check. Clothes? Check. First aid kit? Check.

6. On the D day, arrange your meeting with your relatives or friends you ask to stay overnight with. It'd be better if you gather in your relative's house, which are close enough to the hotel. The check-in schedule will be approximately on midday. So be sure that you've arrived at your relative's house in the morning, to do the final check.

Soo..those are the steps. Now onto the schedule....

THE SCHEDULE

Day 1
  • 11.00 am: Arrival at the hotel. Check in.

  • 11.00 am -11.30 am: Settling in. Looking around the room, adoring every corner of its luxury, trying out cool stuffs such as the "automatic curtain" that opens up by just pressing a button on the table, checking out channels provided on the flat screen, checking out the jacuzzi, the cool imported furnitures, minibar, etc.

  • 11.30 am -1.00 pm: Fascinated yet? Don't spend too much time on the room for now. Make sure you haven't lied down on your warm, soft bed (because you'll be asleep very soon). You can do that later. Now, put on your shoes, and go downstairs to the nearest shopping center for lunch. Try not to shop first after lunch. You'll get that chance later.

  • 1.00 pm - 3.30 pm: Already full? Then you must feel rather sleepy by now. Okay, now return to your hotel and have a nice nap or if you're not sleepy, just watch some TV or grab some snacks. You can also have a nice jacuzzi bath and watching TV at the same time. Basically this is your relaxing time. Feel free to rest your feet and have a cozy atmosphere of your luxurious suite. Also, spend some time looking up in the internet or newspaper about the current cinema schedule.

  • 3.30 pm - 7.00 pm: It's your free time now. Feel free whether you still want to have a good sleep in your room or going downstairs to the shopping center. But I recommend you not to stay all the night being in your suite. If there are more than one shopping centers nearby, then try to go visit them. Not too far but it won't be really painful to take a walk right? Use this chance as well as you can. From sightseeing, windowshopping, shopping, or maybe have a good tea time in a cozy cafe. While having some good time at the shopping center, don't forget to do these things:
--> Call your mom and dad. You have 2 options: first, invite them to come over to your suite at 6.30 pm, bringing some food for dinner to enjoy in the room together while watching a good show/movie on HBO; second, invite them to come over to a nearby restaurant in a shopping mall at 7.00 pm. I'd recommend the first option, because of course, no matter how you really love to enjoy much of your time in a shopping center, you wouldn't spend the whole afternoon there, would you? At least return to your suite just to rest your aching feet.

    -->
Book several tickets at a nearby cinema for 9.00 pm or 8.00 pm show. Not too late, not too early, though it's strongly recommended to watch the 9.00 pm show. The possibility to get the ticket for 9.00 pm is big, because there won't be a lot of people watching that late right? While you're having this chance to stay at a hotel near the cinema and you will only take a few minutes walking back and forth to and from the cinema. One more thing, DO NOT LOSE THE TICKETS.
  • 7.00 pm: Return to your suite. Call your parents and ask for their current positions. Your job is to stand by in the lobby, or wait in the room until they call you that they've arrived. Then go downstairs and pick them up. Don't forget to help them carrying these boxes of food. Dinner's coming!

  • 7.00 pm - 8.20 pm: Dinner! Chat with your parents and show them about the "beauty" of the suite room you're staying in. While having dinner, pick up a good show to watch together on TV.

  • 8.20 pm - 9.40 pm: It doesn't mean that you need to banish your parents, but tell them that you have this pretty film to watch at 9. In the other hand, don't let them go home to early. Ask them to go home at the same time you're going to the cinema. So you'll split up at the lobby . Your parents are heading home while you're going to the cinema. Don't forget to bring the tickets. Or you can also ask your parents to take you to the cinema. You'll split up there.

  • 9.40 pm - 9.00 pm: The studio's door is usually opened earlier than the movie is scheduled, like 10 minutes earlier. Make sure you'll arrive there at least 10 minutes before the movie's scheduled. You can go to the restroom or buy some popcorns.

  • 9.00 pm - 11.30 pm: Enjoy the movie!!

  • 11.30 pm - 11.45 pm: How's the movie? Good? Tired enough? Now it's time for you return to your hotel suite. It's pretty rare for you to be in a shopping center this late right? Don't miss the chance of seeing couples hanging out in cozy cafes or some youths that are still lurking around. It's Saturday night! The later the night gets, the busier the shopping center becomes!

  • 11.45 pm - 1.00 am: Go to your suite room. Put off your shoes, wash your face, brush your teeth, and change to your pajamas. Throw your body to the heavenly king size springbed, rest your head on the puffy pillow, snuggle against your warm blanket..... *the writer's drooling over her imagination right now*. You can go straight to sleep or you can watch some light shows on TV like cartoons or sitcoms. Don't stay up too long. You must already sleep at least at 1.00 am.

Well, have a good night!

* * * * * * * *

Day 2
  • 7.00 am - 7.30 am: Good moooorrnnniing....Nice dream? Bet you have, because you're like staying in a "paradise". Don't spend too much time in your room. You can watch TV for a bit to watch some news or cartoons. But don't forget to take a bath and prepare for some breakfast. Try to at least start packing your things from now. You don't need to finish the whole packing but you don't want to do it entirely at the last minute before checking out, right?

  • 7.30 am - 8.30 am: Breakfast time!!! While having breakfast, also try to look for information about a nearby place of interest (aside from mall). Like museums or just interesting things.

  • 8.30 am - 11.00 am: Free time! Use this chance as well as possible. But again, don't spend too much time in your room. Here are the options:
--> You can choose either to take a walk outside or go to a nearby place of interest. In choosing a place of interest, try to avoid using a taxi. You need to find a very near place of interest, that requires you take a walk or go by public transportation (aside from taxi) like Busway. Museum or a place like Monas will be a perfect choice.

--> If you choose to go to the shopping center this morning, then you have to wait at least until 10.00 am. You can go to your suite and have your morning jacuzzi while waiting until 10.00 am.

--> You can also choose to enjoy the facilities at the hotel, for example: spa, fitness, swimming....

All activities must end at 11.00 am
  • 11.00 am - 12.00: I know that you still want to spend some time with your activities. But look at the time! It's 11.00 am now. Time to pack up your things and make sure nothing gets left behind. Time to say goodbye to your luxurious suite room.

  • 12.00 am: Go to the front desk. Check out. Are your parents already there? Then it's time to say goodbye to your holiday getaway. Aww......school's coming up tomorrow. That sucks.

EXCEPTION!

This occasion can probably be best if held during important events, like New Year. If you stay over at a hotel during this event, then take a look at these exceptions out of the schedule

1. Make sure you book the hotel for at New Year's Eve

2. Don't arrange your movie at night like described above! This is a New Year's Eve, sure you want to go for the countdown event. Try to book a movie at late afternoon (like 3.00 pm).

3. After the movie, you have free time to do until 10.00 pm. But make sure you don't stay at your suite for the rest of the day. You sure don't want to miss the countdown. Also, if you're currently taking a break after the movie, use this chance to save your energy for the countdown tonight and find a nearby event for you to attend. Usually the hotel will hold sort of a live music to celebrate the Countdown in its lounge or maybe lobby, or maybe you can go to someplace else nearby that will provide fireworks.

4.
Don't forget to take a break before attending the event and save your energy. Make sure you can stay up late for tonight

5. After dinner, prepare yourself.

6. The event will most likely be held in 10.00 pm. So just pleas do enjoy the rest of the evening. 5...4...3...2...1...HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Haha, what a long post right? Again, I just want to tell you that I wrote it for fun, just to kill time since there's nothing else to do (my paper's done!). All of this experience I recommend to you is based on a true story. I don't mean to boast anything about it or what. I didn't shop while staying at a luxurious hotel on 2006.

My aunt was fortunate enough to get discount vouchers to stay overnight in a hotel suite, and she also got a bonus and offered me and my cousin to watch a movie. So basically it all thanked to luck itself. I was so impressive by this experience that I've written this story into a documentary novel and even I still have some photos of my experience. Probably I'll share them to you next time. :)

An "Ad" for English Assignment

Okay, I know this may look pretty weird (well, not "may", but obviously it IS weird). I just did an English assignment, due tomorrow, which is making an advertisement of a city. Here's what I came up with

Sorry for the very bad quality. I know you can only read the text if you zoom it in. So basically I chose Hangzhou because it's like the China's "Kyoto". If Japan has Kyoto as a famous, tourism site known for its culture, then I believe China represents much of its culture in Hangzhou. It's one of my favorite cities I visited in China last July.

Oh...and another piece of "junk" I want to show you. Hehe, I kind of like this one though. I actually didn't make it for the reunion written on the invitation. The reunion is real, of course, but I made the invitation long after that. For portfolio purposes, if you know what I mean.

Ookkaayy, gotta catch up with my paper again. Got a lot of revisions to do. Ugh. The test is by the end of this week. Wish me luck! ^_^

GREETINGS!
In this opportunity, I'd like to say hi to Fenny Wong, the writer of "Moonlight Waltz" I've reviewed in this blog, for stopping by and dropping a message. I hope you like my review ^_^. I'm not really good in reviewing books, but I do love your book! Nice work! Keep up with your writing! :)

New Moon vs 2012

I finally finished my paper today! But I know it's not over yet, because I know there are lots of revision to do before getting it accepted. In the mean time, I'm waiting for my favorite boyband in Asian Music Award to appear (and some other Korean and Japanese artists I adore too). While waiting, I just want to share this for you, hope it's not too pointless...

Paper really took much of my time. I've planned to see 2012 since last week but never fulfilled that wish until now. While I planned to watch 2012 since New Moon (another most wanted movie) is coming up this week.

So, these are two movies I desperately want to see these days...

Obvious eh?

These are two movies that will be fighting the box office. Okay, I admit it, 2012 has been in the top of box office chart since last week. But there are still lots of people out there that haven't seen the movie (like me). Meanwhile New Moon is coming up this week. Mm...tough battle of two movies? Everyone? So fangirls are obviously excited to see New Moon, while the Non-Twilighters decide to watch 2012 over New Moon. I consider myself as neutral. I love Twilight (if you ask which team I am, whether Jacob or Edward, I will obviously say...JACOB!!).

2012 REMOVAL
Lately, I've heard the infotainments on TV are busy talking about the rumors of 2012 removal on cinemas. Celebrities are asked for their opinions, and today, I heard that it was confirmed already that 2012 will be removed from cinemas in Indonesia. Apparently MUI disagrees about the idea of the movie, which depict doomsday, thus misleading its audience into believing that on December 21, 2012, a global catalysm will happen, just like what the Mayans predicted. As a person who hasn't watched the movie (stupid paper, I should have watched this movie last week), I'm surely disappointed. They said that the movie would be removed if not today then tomorrow.

Honestly, I don't like the way MUI thinks. I know they're against the movie because they believe it misleads people into believing what the Mayans predicted. But well, come to think of it. Movie is art, right? People are free to express every issues going on in this world through the form of art. And I think by responding to the rumors about 2012 doomsday, Roland Emmerich decided to make a film about it. You know, Emmerich is like the "king" of disaster movies, ranging from Independence Day, Godzilla, to the latest The Day After Tomorrow.

Emmerich responded the issue of Global Warming by making The Day After Tomorrow, where, in alternate universe, Global Warming caused huge Ice Storms to strike the northern hemisphere. In this version of Doomsday, the world will end up being covered by ice, leading it to another Ice Age. Well, indirectly this movie tells about doomsday, but the main focus is about Global Warming itself.

Lately, a rumor about 2012 doomsday has been brought up by public. People seem to be talking about it these days. Maybe Emmerich was curious enough about this issue, thus making the rumor to come true in his latest work, 2012. Its promotion is less known than New Moon's. New Moon has been most waited by its fans all over the world since after Twilight was released, while this movie 2012 suddenly just popped out and immediately drew people's interests to watch it.

With 2012 sitting on the top of the box office, apparently Indonesians are also interested to see the movie. Just watch TV. People have lined up in cinemas just to see the movie. Very sensational, isn't it?

But after a week of release, the movie is told (and later confirmed) to be removed, because of its controversies. Then I watched infotainment this afternoon, with celebrities asking "If they remove a disaster-themed movie like 2012, why didn't they remove movies like Knowing or The Day After Tomorrow?" It struck me quite a good question. Knowing and The Day After Tomorrow have the same theme, which is disaster, even Knowing is even more tragical than the other Emmerich movies (see the ending of Knowing for your information).

In my opinion, MUI is against the movie 2012 because there's a religious belief value contained in it. I'm certain, it's just no one has mentioned about it yet. In the movie, the global catalysm that has been predicted by the Mayans, is proved to be true. Meanwhile, according to Moslem believes that only God knows when doomsday will happen. MUI believes that the movie misleads the belief of all people into believing that the Mayan prediction is accurate that on December 21, 2012, all life on earth will be wiped out. Knowing's disaster is actually based on prediction too, but not based on any religious belief's predicition. So you can say that Indonesians are indeed sensitive when it comes to religion and beliefs.

So, I guess that answers the question why movies like Knowing and The Day After Tomorrow were not removed during their release. That's because there's no religious belief contained in it. At least, through the 2012 doomsday prediction, that our nature is dying and we - as humans - are responsible to prevent Global Warming, which somehow can lead us to a disaster. Well, maybe not as 'lebay' as what is depicted in Emmerich's disaster movies.

Everyone, even it is the genius Mr. Roland Emmerich himself, is free to depict every issues going on in society through the form of art. Art is an expression, isn't it? Besides, the movie is only an entertainment, isn't it? Whether it misleads people and scare them about the fact of 2012 doomsday, it all comes back to them. As audience, people should be wise to choose which one is entertainment and which one is a religious belief.

Rest in peace, dear blackberry...

Okay, I've made this in the middle of finishing my paper. I got bored and my eyes started to ache with the whole stiff writings. So why don't I write something that will refresh my mind and eyes? This joke/funny story has been planned a while ago, but I didn't wrote it till today. It didn't even take too much time to write this story!

This is my kind of joke. So that's alright if that doesn't entertain you. But still, enjoy

========================================

By Carissa

On the independence day, RT 54 holds an annual gathering, complete with typical independence day races and games. This has become the tradition of the neighborhood, as well as many communities in Indonesia. Leaving their houses empty, the residents join in the gathering along with their family and relatives. Soon, as everyone has gathered in the field, the event begins. Games and races start, involving not only children, yet also the much enthusiastic adults.

THE HOST: Ladies and gentlemen, don't go anywhere yet because soon, at the end of our annual gathering, we're going to hold a cracker-eating race (lomba makan kerupuk) for the adults. The race will be divided into three rounds: first is the pleminary round, second is the semi-final, and the third is the final round. BUT, this won't be an ordinary race like any other kind of races. Because, the winner will get a lot of BLACKBERRIES, courtesy of Mr. Suherman, who's kindly enough to contribute for our event.

A blackberry. No. BLACKBERRIES? As in plural? What a wow. Who doesn't want to get such a cool gadget? The most updated yet the latest one in the market people have been dying to have? And it's not just one blackberry but lots of them. It's just the host doesn't mention how many of them. But still, it's unbelievable. What would their types be? Javelyn? Curve? Bold? Actually, RT 54 is located in a rural area, so it won't be easy to achieve that kind of gadget, because the nearby city is quite far away from that neighborhood. Mr. Suherman is not even considerably rich. Maybe he's saved his money to purchase them.

Soon the adults become extremely eager and they quickly sign up to participate in the race altogether - not wanting to lose their chance to win blackberries.

With twenty adults joining, the race is on. The pleminary round passes, leaving only 8 contestants remaining to go to the next round. As the semi-final goes, 2 tough contestants are left to go to the final one: Mr. Darsono and Mr. Tarsih. These two gentlemen are considerably tough, supported by the fact that they have this extraordinary ability to eat very quickly. The crowds are now cheering as they are eager to see who is going to walk away with a blackberry in their hand. Even some of the young men place bets for the duel.

As the duel goes on, Mr. Darsono and Mr. Tarsih eat like madmen, with crumbs of cracker falling out of their mouth as they are munching on their crackers. Their mouths are crazily filled with crackers. While those mouths are full enough, they still insist on finishing the crackers all at once.

Finally, Mr. Darsono comes up as a winner.

His family cheers and so do his supporters. His wife cries in tears, sobbing in happiness "My dear hubby gets a fortune!" over and over again. Now it comes to a moment for Mr. Darsono to step up and gets his reward.

THE HOST: So, how do you feel, Mr. Darsono?

DARSONO: Full, of course, but this wouldn't mean nothing if it weren't of the blackberries

THE HOST: Before you receive your present, would you like to say a word? (like an acceptance speech)

DARSONO: Uh...first of all, I'd like to thank God for His blessing, then to my wife, children, and the whole neighborhood for supporting me. Thank you all.

*applause*

Mr. Darsono obviously can't wait to receive his reward. His eyes just need to get ready for it. Lots of box containing blackberries will soon appear before his sight. But the host keeps his curiosity grow even more.

THE HOST: And to whom would you like to share your blackberries to?

DARSONO: Um...uh...first my brother, in the city. He just lost his phone a week ago and I think, by giving him a blackberry will help him cope his problem. Then to my friends *gazing at his neighbors who are cheering at him*, I know you'll be expecting for this, and the last one, to my wife. This is also for you, darling.

*applause again*

THE HOST: Oh that's very generous of you. So, tell me, are you ready for them?

DARSONO: Yes, yes

THE HOST: Once again *raising his tone*, are you ready for it, sir?

DARSONO: (with voices of the crowd in the background) YES, YES....

THE HOST: Alllllrright...bring them in, boys!

The blackberries. They're here. Oh Lord, what did I dream last night? How could I be this lucky?

Some men step on to the stage, carrying something completely covered with a giant cloth. But no doubt anymore, something hidden inside the cloth is no other than the blackberries themselves. Lots of them!

THE HOST: Here are....what you've been waiting for.....the BLACKBERRIES!!

*applause and cheers*

The men unhesitatingly opened the cloth only to unveil a basket of small, dark fruits resembling grapes inside it.

*applause and cheers fade*

Mr. Darsono drops his jaw. Too speechless to speak anything. This is what he's been desiring about. This is what the whole neigborhood would kill for having. But apparently, they've expected too much, for it turns out nothing but the common fruits they've seen before.

THE HOST: *in a very loud voice, in contrast of the silent situation, where nobody speaks nor moves due to being extremely surprised* COOOOONGRATULATIONS Mr. Darsono. You're very lucky to receive this amazing reward, a basket of blackberries, courtesy of Mr. Suherman, who's kindly enough to contribute the fruits from his yard.

The whole field stays still in silence. Only the host's loud bariton voice fills the space. For nobody believes. They're not Blackberries, literally, they're REAL blackberries. Mr. Darsono is shaken and mixed with many emotions. Soon, he's going to share the fruits to the people he's promised to share them too. Nothing special about this.

Then, Mr. Darsono runs away from the stage while coughing, attempting throw up after devouring lots of cracker all at once. The crackers that are eaten, swallowed, but not digested well...wasted along with his hope.

Rest in peace, dear blackberry....

Dazed and Confused

Paper...
That word keeps ringing in my head
Never let go of my mind
When will it come to its end?
So many obstacles heading my way, blocking my view to the bright end

Paper...
The word that every twelfth graders keeps buzzing about
Running down the hallway like busy bees collecting their honey.
Yes, people, we are the bees
But it's not honey that we're looking for
It's our future ahead
The paper
Yes, that's our honey

Just like ants gathering their food in the summer
To keep it as a supply by the winter
We are the ants
And the paper we've been made busy about is our food
The winter is our future

I am dazed and confused
So many things piling up in my mind that I can even hardly think of anything
"Music homework!" "Arabic exam!"
All will be done tomorrow!
Ah...music...we know that we suck at it
The teacher is such a rubbish
Giving us a task that is completely a nutjob
Writing a song
Does he think we can get an inspiration for the whole freaking song,
just in one freaking night?
Meanwhile our minds are focused on one thing

Our food for the winter

Our honey for the food supply

The Paper is our future
A book of pages ranging from thirty to fifty
A book typed by all of our hands
Energy spent
Sweat wasted
Eyes locked on the screen
Mind wanders off far ahead
To our future ahead

The future is in our hands
And the future itself is due this WEEK

Oh...Mon Dieu...
I really don't feel like going to school tomorrow
I really want to skip this night, tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow
Or this week, if that is possible
But time keeps ticking
And we are inside it
Tick tack tick tack
Minutes passed
But my eyes are still stuck on the chapter three of my paper

And because of me being stuck
I decided to write this little piece of poem
You can consider it as a junk, my friend
But this is how I express myself at this very moment
"I'm going nuts!" I hear my friends say
Oh how despair gets over you, my friend
But we must not give up
We must not let despair gets over us

We can beat it
We can do it
We can finish this freakishly, devastating junk called PAPER
P-A-P-E-R
It's our future
We are reaching out for it

All I want to say here is...
Tarakanita 2010, and all students out there in Jakarta and entire Indonesia
Especially for those who are devastated by their papers
That we can do it
Let us not waste our time weeping, whimpering,
crying out "We can't do it."
Because we can do it
Oh yeah, even Obama said this

YES WE CAN

Ganbatte Kudasai
Bon Courage
Semoga sukses
Viel Gluck
Buena Suerte
GOOD LUCK

Most Favorite Michael Jackson's Song

Yes, it's Black or White, and it's my most favorite song of MJ ever, or maybe for now. The video looks cool too. Check it out!

Je suis super content aujourd'hui!

means: I'm very happy today!

Haha, not really. It's just that I'm kind of in a good mood today. Well, there are several things that really made my day today.
  • Finally, I got to figure out how to do three column layout on Blogger. So you can see that I come up with a new layout. Not a new template though. Dark and Hollywood pink still catch my attention. But you can see some new features I applied on the sidebars. Don't those Facebook and Twitter logos look different? Yeah, I made them myself, after downloading their fonts.

  • After getting stuck for nearly days on my paper, I did a consultation with this lovely lady, advisor, and teacher, Bu Santi, who gave me solution what to do with my Chapter 3 and the best way to complete my paper before its deadline. Finally...after days of being stuck, thanks to her solution and dedication, now I can move on!!

  • I got to ALMOST finish Canon in D today, for the concert on the 31st of November in PIM 2. Please come and watch, everyone :)

  • Getting more and more expressions, phrases, and vocabularies of French. By the way, the teacher offered me to take a DELF test, it's like a TOEFL but in French. Well, I'm still a beginner, and far from being someone who is fluent in French. German takes more of my time, so I'm more getting used to speak German. Though I love French too. That language is just fascinatting. The phrase "Je suis super content" is one of the new phrases I learned today.

  • Speaking of French, just found a new, unseen scene of Gaspard Ulliel in his movie the Vintner's Luck. Whoopeee

  • Unfortunately, nothing new about Super Junior. The frequently updated website of theirs: Twelfs, is currently in hiatus. Except that yesterday, a friend of mine, a Freshman to be exact, lent me two disks of Super Junior 1st Asian Super Show. It was awesome!!! Can't describe it by words.

  • RAININGRAININGRAINING. Wish today is Sunday night. If you know what I mean...

  • Going home early from school. A monthly teachers' meeting was held.

  • I finally finished reading a novel written by Fenny Wong, entitled "Moonlight Waltz". Scroll down for its review
Um alright now onto the book review

It's been a while for me not to read teen stuff, especially in Indonesian. Lately, I'm more into chicklit and cultural literature like Memoirs of a Geisha. Actually I stumbled upon this book while looking for a book for my friend's birthday.

Lately I'm interested in fictions about music, and there it was, the book called Moonlight Waltz caught my attention and I decided to buy it. This book is published by Gagasmedia, and written by Fenny Wong. It tells about a girl named Arlin who falls for a boy who dedicates his life for piano. But in the other side, the boy actually also catches the attention of Liora, a girl who is pretty much like him. Both Liora and Aldo have this same interest on music, while Arlin feels jealous about them having this same ambition.

As the 'new book' I've read after a while reading mature, literate, heavy readings, especially in English, I felt kind of awkward reading this novel at first. I mean, after a while being vacuum from reading Indonesian especially teen fictions, I haven't got used to the sentence structure and writing style. But I tell you, Moonlight Waltz is really nicely written, straight to the point, warm, and witty. The plot is light, not too heavy. It's kind of book you'll bring with you on a trip and you'll read it while waiting to board the plane in the airport.

However, the book is less descriptive, and much straight to the point. But you know that this book is unlike Twilight, who blabbers more about descriptions of the characters, setting, and place. Moonlight Waltz is more into narrative prose, with a flowing plot (haha, Language department student mode on). Although it's less descriptive, I think this book fits for people who like to go to straight to point, without blabbering here and there, lots of description, etc. I consider myself more as a descriptive person though, seeing that my novel is filled with descriptions, descriptions, descriptions. I love them, but it doesn't mean I hate narrative prose. Description is just my thing.

Onto the minus, well, first, it's a bit less descriptive, like I say. Second, some parts seem to be experiencing from 'plot jump', meaning there are some scenes happening without being told why that happen, like the reason why Liora is absent for a while. The story is also a bit cliche and too teen-ish, with a simple plot (love triangle. Trust me, it's just me not getting used to reading teenlit!). But I like how Fenny makes a twist at the end of the story though, which I like.

OK then, let's wrap things up. I recommend this book for those who like light reading, to be read to kill your time, and just a one-day finished reading novel. Guten Nacht!

Those Alluring Glares...

Again, another post made in the middle of boredom. I just finished this questionnaire for my paper, and lately, it seems I'm in mood of updating my blog! After reading my guilty pleasure (possibly vol 1), I'll let you know some other facts about me again this time.

So...villains. You know who they are, don't you? They're the bad guys, and people always curse them. For example, when you're watching a movie where two main characters are having a duel, which one do you support the most? The good guy, right? Well, of course, the bad guys are after all, bad. They're sadistic, selfish, and have this common desire to get rid of someone in their villainous way, like assassinating, manipulating, etc (which is the good guy of course).

But, I'm quite different. Sometimes I find bad guys are more attractive than the good ones. If you see what I mean, bad guys tend to have this special 'charm' that really attracts me, while the good guys, though good-looking, don't have this particular thing. Despite these bad guys kill people, sometimes they make me go like 'wow'. Because actually bad guys are smart, even smarter than the good guys who always win. Good guys win because they're not smart, but I think that's because the factor of luck. No one can seem to beat the cleverness of bad guys, but it all comes back to the factor of luck itself. This is proven by the fact that whatever attempts and hard works the villains have done to reach their evil goals, they always, sometimes, or maybe not, end up dying. This after all also proves that good always wins.

So without further ado, make way for the villains! (oh and, the more menacing a villain looks, the more charming and attractive he is)
1. THE JOKER
"Why so serious?"

Movie: The Dark Knight (2008)
Played by: Heath Ledger
He ends up: *spoiler starts*survived. I can hardly recall since it's been a long time for me not to see this movie. But somehow, he's alive.*spoiler ends*
Reason: One of my favorite villains! Played by the amazing Heath Ledger. But honestly I don't really recall how the movie is like, since it's really complicated and the plot is complex. All I know is, the Joker portrayed in this movie is a bit different than the other Jokers portrayed in other Batman movies. In other Batman movies, Joker tends to be more aggressive, laughs a lot, and very energetic, without any coldness at all. While in this movie (I read how Heath Ledger tried to make an innovation by playing Joker in slightly different personality), Joker is colder, smarter, yet more sadistic. A really Oscar-deserving character! And indeed, Heath won the Oscar for this role. Way to go.

2. HANNIBAL LECTER
"Do you remember "Das männlein im walde", Herr Dortlich? Mischa loved that song. Let's sing for Mischa!"

Movie: All Hannibal Series, but my most favorite one is of course, the prequel 2. one, Hannibal Rising (2007)
Played by: Gaspard Ulliel (Vous etez tres beau! Je t'aime, Gaspard! >_<)
Ends up:
*spoiler starts* targetting the last war criminal that has killed his sister. The last scene shows Hannibal arriving in Canada, visiting his last target, and then starting his adventure killing and eating people in land of America. *spoiler ends*
Reason: He's sooo cold....Despite the fact that the movie Hannibal Rising received negative reviews, I think Gaspard did quite a good job portraying a legendary character once portrayed by Sir Anthony Hopkins. Besides, who doesn't 'love' Hannibal? I mean, he's a legend. Sadistic but smart. In this prequel, we can see the emotional side of Hannibal. How he becomes such a sadistic figure because he figures out that his sister is killed and eaten by the war criminals. You should see when he makes his first murdering attempt, on the butcher. Young Hannibal is actually offended because his aunt, played by Gong Li - who has 'adopted' him and taken care of him - is insulted by the butcher. The butcher apparently says something inappropriate about her, and hearing about it, Hannibal becomes enraged and promises that he'll kill the butcher, only for insulting his aunt. Aww....but still, sadistic....

3. ANAKIN SKYWALKER/DARTH VADER
"Don't lecture me, Obi-Wan! I see through the lies of the Jedi. I do not fear the dark side as you do. I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new Empire."

Movie: Star Wars Episode III- Revenge of the Sith
Played by: Hayden Christensen
Ends up: *spoiler starts*turning to the Dark Side by becoming Darth Vader and the story continues to the Classic Trilogy*spoiler ends*
Reason: Anakin, I love you! But why do you have to choke your wife, Padme? Haha, actually I love Anakin (particularly in Episode III) because he's a handsome, rather than in the second one. And second, I kind of like Darth Vader too. :)

4. SWEENEY TODD
"What may I do for you today, sir? A stylish trimming of the hair? A soothing skin massage? Sit, sir, sit."

Movie: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
Played by:
The ever so awesome Mr. Johnny Depp
He ends up: *spoiler starts*kills himself by cutting his throat with his shaving knife after realizing that the old woman he just kills actually turns out to be his missing wife*spoiler ends*
Reason: I hardly watched the entire movie, because it's just so sadistic, and I'm kind of a person who can hardly stand the sight of blood. While Tim Burton clearly shows the blood splashing out of one's throat after it's cut. But you know, the character Sweeney Todd is almost like Hannibal Lecter. He becomes a psychopath by opening a barber and kills his costumers in a 'soft' yet a sadistic way because of his emotion being disturbed. He apparently works together with Mrs. Lovett, played by Helena Bonham Carter, who opens a pie shop just below the barber shop. So, after Todd kills a costumer, the dead body will be transferred to the pie shop and to be cooked as a pie (whoa). While Hannibal Lecter goes to avenge her sister's death, Sweeney Todd becomes a barber after being thrown into jail and the fact that his wife goes missing (I think the evil judge played by Alan Rickman tells Todd that his wife is already dead. I forget about this part). But, who doesn't love the charm of Johnny Depp in this movie? Still, he's one awesome, alluring actor! *sigh*

5. AGAMEMNON, KING OF MYCENAE
"You are a smudge on history's ledger, but you are my brother." - to Menelaus, Agamemnon's brother

Movie: Helen of Troy (2003)
Played by:
Rufus Sewell
He ends up: *spoiler starts*being killed by his own wife, Queen Clytemnestra. First, because Agamemnon kills his daughter, and second because he also rapes Helen of Troy. *spoiler ends*
Reason: He's very manipulative in a way! And I like how Rufus portrays a villain (who is actually an evil king!). Though in the real story of Trojan War, he is not exactly a villain. Agamemnon is very ambitious about his goal for conquering Troy. Even he dares to sacrifice his daughter for the goddess, so that she will protect Agamemnon and the Greeks until they reach the land of Troy.

6. KYUHYUN
"Thanks for believing me so easily."

Movie: Super Junior Mini Drama- Episode 2: Dangerous Friendship
Played by: Cho Kyuhyun!! (Saranghae!)
Ends up: *spoiler starts*leaving as he just poisons Sungmin, and leaving him dying. He also puts the poison in the hand of the unconscious Shin Dong (another roommate who has grown suspicious with Kyuhyun, and later hit by Kyuhyun by a glass bottle to unconsciousness). So the ending concludes that Kyuhyun leaves but he pretends as if Shin Dong is the one who has poisoned Sungmin *spoiler ends*
This mini drama proves that the good guys don't always win!
Reason: Kyuhyun.is.so.handsome! He's my current Asian crush! Okay, so Kyuhyun plays in a mini drama made for Suju boyband. And there *spoiler starts* he plays a boy who is jealous by the fact that his crush, falls for another boy (Sungmin). Desperate because the girl doesn't return his love, he decides to kill her (hitting her with a car) and disguises as Sungmin's new roommate, who acts much like his deceased crush, by portraying her habits and it reminds Sungmin of his deceased girlfriend. At once, Sungmin kind of falls for Kyuhyun (a bit gay stuff, but don't worry, Sungmin falls for Kyuhyun because he reminds him of his dead girlfriend). But Sungmin is unaware that Kyuhyun has an evil plan to get rid of Sungmin. In the end, Sungmin is poisoned by Kyuhyun and left dying. It is later revealed that Kyuhyun's intention is 'if he can't get his love, then no one will' *spoiler ends*
Kyaaa....my favorite bad boy ever! Kyuhyun oppa, I should've put you at the top. But Joker took it over... >_<
Haha...this post is a bit hillarious at the end, isn't it? What about you? Do you have a particular interest on bad boys? Or do you still hate them? What would you do if you were loved by a boy, but you know that he was bad and he had a bad plan to get rid of someone? Would you be on his side or no? If it happened to be, mm...I don't know, maybe...I'd join him. Nah, of course not. In reality, bad boys are STILL bad boys. And I love good ones. ^_^

And you know what? Actually this is one of my favorite posts so far! I enjoyed writing it!

The Greatest Guilty Pleasures (Vol. 1?)

I'm bored tonight, currently working on my paper. Suddenly I feel like posting, again. A bit tired tonight, but it's a short post after all. So, why not?

So this time, I'm going to reveal some of my greatest guilty pleasures. For those who don't know what guilty pleasure is, it's something that you feel guilty for doing, but in the other side you enjoy it. For example, you're on a tight diet schedule but secretly you steal some chocolate bars from the fridge and eat them.

And actually I've been wanting to post something about these guilty pleasures. But I've never had the chance, until tonight!

OK, without further ado, here are my guilty pleasures. Starting from number one, the 'greatest' one I've ever had.
  1. Skipping classes for a week only to go for a vacation to the US with my parents
(see 'My Feb US Trip' posts for more stories and details about it).
This is the greatest guilty pleasure I've ever had, because I needed to lie here and there. People kept asking me where I was going, and I just told them "I'm going out of town". I only told my real destinations to my close friends and teachers. One of the teachers, who is concerned much about me in a good way, begged for me not to go if the purpose of my leave was not really important. But I told her and the others that I was looking up for some schools there and gained knowledge about American culture (this one is for real, not just some excuses, the fact that I went there to learn more about the culture, the people, and how to develop my individuality, because basically, once I was there, my mom sort of 'left' me for most of the time, leading me to ask for directions to some strangers, friendly ones though).

  2. Taking French course out of mom's supervision
My second greatest guilty pleasure and I've been doing this for more than four months! So it all started when I was in grade 11. My friends all took French course and I begged my mom so she could permit me to join it as well. But my mom strongly disagreed and thought that learning French was useless (despite the fact that she - too - could actually talk French). Only dad knows about this and he gave it a go. Since I'm not so sure if I can frequently attend the class, I decided to pay the teacher per appointment, which is very useful! Anyway, I take French along with a friend of mine, who has taken it before but then quit, and now she resumes it. So sometimes, I like to bring out some French words while I'm with my family. Maybe, my mom will be like "What the...? How can she speak French?? Who teaches her?" Haha something like that. And also, I take French every Friday after school, and you know that my mom always 'watches over' me. She always makes a call every after school only to assure if I'm already home. But while I'm taking French course and she calls, I have to make fake excuses for that, for example, saying that there's a sudden activity at school, that requires me to go home late, something like that. Basically I become quite clever and manipulative in this case :)

  3. Watching Kissing Scenes only to get a muse in writing Love Scene
One thing you should know about me: I'm not horny. I'm a girl. I'm clean. But I watch kissing scene sometimes when I need to. Okay, when I say 'I need to', I mean it. I don't watch it only for leisure or just to get horny. I believe that there's always something that we can learn from things and that everything always has its advantage. I'm a writer, and sometimes, in my book, there are a few kissing scenes. Writing a kissing scene isn't like "So the girl went up to the boy and kissed him". Even a writer needs a visualization. To be honest, writing a kissing scene is like the most difficult thing to write in a book, because it requires a complex and descriptive words. To help me with this, I also browse for some good 'kissing descriptions' on google. How to describe a kissing scene. But besides that, I also need to see how a real kiss is like. So I go to Youtube, and browse for some kissing scenes, not too hot, of course. Only normal ones, like Twilight kissing scene, or Star Wars kissing scene. They're brief but passionate enough.

    Get it? Eh??
Well, that's all for now. Hope you enjoy my post at 10.00 pm. See you.

Again, another piece of literature work...

I'm posting another piece of literature work, again, written in Indonesian for your convenience. But if you're looking for the English version, please let me know so that I can translate it. This short story is going to be published in Language Department's magazine, title coming soon. :)

The story is actually based on my imagination, with the theme of 'Emerging from the Underworld', so that's basically the theme of the magazine itself. Hopefully the story is suitable enough with the theme, as the boy character is looking for hope in the middle of despair, and the angel plays a role as the oasis. As for the story inspiration, I'm always interested in stories about angel encounters. "Sebuah Dialog dengan Sang Malaikat" (it sounds so obvious, I know I suck at titles) tells about a boy who encounters an angel in the middle of a devastating situation of Jakarta, set in Ramadhan.

For now, please do enjoy my work, and one more thing. It takes me a while to write it down, so please don't copy it. :) I know you're good readers.

Sebuah Dialog Dengan Sang Malaikat

* * *

Dimas memang jagonya kalau berimajinasi.

* * *

“Saya hanya kebetulan lewat.”

Aku mengangguk seraya mengunyah pisang goreng.

“Sungguh memprihatinkan.

Aku terdiam, mengunyah gigitan terakhir pisang goreng.

“Maaf.” Kataku.
