Last week in community college....

The finals week is approaching, and here I am posting something on the blog (yeah right).

I just finished one final exam, for today. Well, you wouldn't call it an exam, as it was a critique for my color theory class final assignment. I worked my butt off on it until 4am, and when I thought I could wake up 3 hours later to attend French revision before its final exam, I overslept.

So, here I am, at the last week in community college before a whole new chapter starts within two months. It feels like it was yesterday when I first posted this.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Anyway, the week before, I attended ISV's last meeting of the quarter. As for me, it would be my very last ISV meeting or probably club meeting in my college, before hell-oh university!

Last weekend, I already completed my very last volunteer activity, which is to paint visitors' (mostly children's) faces in a health organizational event. No pictures taken, sadly, but I had a great time doing my job that time. I had 0 experience in facepainting but after a short briefing (even without training), I pulled it off.

Got three precious goodies in a day!
Certificate for being the club member
Certificate of Appreciation for being Graphic Designer of the club
Starbucks gift card for being one of the highest volunteer hour achiever

Yay to those!!

Although it was the last meeting, fewer people came yet we had some special guests:
Susan, the club advisor, and Johnson, the 7th president of ISV who used to run the club a couple of years ago. Jessica (the current graphic designer, my successor), and I had a warm chat with Johnson where he shared who the graphic designer during his period and how she was like.

Presented by Bill, the former president whom I got to work with as a graphic designer last year

Presented by Johnson, the 7th president of ISV. So honored... :'D

The boys chillin'. lol

This is one of the reasons why I would definitely miss college. I just figured out that the university where I'm going to transfer to wouldn't have things like clubs as the student life will be 90% focused on their studies. No kidding. So ISV will certainly be missed. It's been a major part of my college life for over a year. I've seen the club progressing since January 2011 up until now, seeing new members popping up and perishing, generation after generation...

...well, I need to stop this before I sound like an old grannie any longer.

Well, anyway, thank you so much ISV for shaping me into what I am now, training me that at some points in life, we don't only need others' help, but others do need our help too. I hope the current and future members will commit to participating in the activities not solely for university application.

Simply just have fun with it :)

Bed Positions and Sleep Disorder

Note: nothing creepy in this post. Just sayin'
You can see a related post on the same topic here: Inception Much

I seriously need to check myself up to psychologist or a psychiatrist back in Jakarta

This freaking sleep paralysis is STILL bugging me
I don't constantly have this everytime I sleep, which is a good thing; but the bad thing, I thought I got this over-with but it's still going on...

...for over a year.
(see, this disorder is no joke)

Recently, I discovered that my sleeping position actually affects of me suffering this symptom, and that is after I sent my dad the picture of my room to see my current bed's position. He told me to refrain myself from sleeping while facing the wall on my side (because my bed's position was right at the wall). It might have anything to do with the interaction between two energies opposing each other, sort of like a north magnetic pole and a south one. My body might have this energy A while the wall consists of energy B, and the two don't seem to interact well, thus creating a resisting effect which takes form of sleep paralysis during my REM phase.

Sleep paralysis is an unpleasant experience. Nothing visually scary, supernatural-ish or whatsoever, but you know by the time you go through it, you feel an incoming terror within you, which leads to a panic feeling...

...well, except the time when my sleep paralysis was followed by dreams where I saw my roommate speaking gibberish while turning into an old hag, me hearing to crazy and noise/loud music that triggered my panic (of course the noise didn't exist in reality) while I was still stiffened in bed.

I took an introductory psychology class last year, got to learn the symptom and disease, but the professor never really told us all how to cure it. Guess I just need to find out myself.

Lucid dreams and sleep paralysis occurs in the fifth stage of sleep cycle
http://lucidchan.org

I also recently asked my friend who majored in psychology. Though uncertain of the cause, she suggested me that I took an hour of gap between being on the computer to sleeping. She also said it might happen due to over-exhaustion. Possible. before These days, I've tried to sleep with my back facing the wall. At first it works, but later, it comes up again, no matter how many times I've changed my sleeping positions. The experience is brief; only lasts for five minutes from the moment you start your REM phase. Yesterday, I woke up many times during my nap (every five minutes), just because when I closed my eyes for a brief moment, this SP symptom occurred.

Whenever that happened, I woke up, felt slightly annoyed that I got a little mad (I don't know to whom). "I just wanted to get some sleep!" but I overcame my complaint since it wouldn't help, and spent some time to pray to God, asking Him for some protection from any disturbance during my sleep.
UPDATE: I just changed my bed position thanks to Elda. So far nothing happened and I'm sure this kind of treatment would do just find. I hope everything would go well from now. Just two weeks before moving out!!

OMG that's very soon...

If I'm seeing this concert for real, it's going to mark my second time seeing a Kpop concert in US.
Wish me luck guys! good luck for those who are trying to get the tickets...

Midnight Workout

A couple of days ago, I was invited by the ISV members to come to campus' quarterly event, Storm the Night Dance. The event took place on Friday, June 8, and I didn't decide on going until my friends dragged me to it. Well, I thought, why not? I came to the similar occasion two quarters ago, and everything should be the same as it was. For a note, I'm not a party-goer. I don't go to clubs and dance till morning, but well, I do sometimes love to step on the dance floor...with the condition: no alcohol.

The preparation for Storm the Night Dance was considerably sudden for me, as I looked up for the dress a few hours before the party commenced, meanwhile most of my friends already got all the stuff they'd been planning to wear since a week ago. I strolled in Valley Fair on my own and finally my attention was hooked on a simple, mini black dress with a black rose embroidery on the left shoulder, complete with a belt.

ISV people were supposed to gather around in Lynn's place before leaving to the venue (which was at school) at 9.00 pm, but apparently we spent too much time on make-up. Only the girls though. The guys were patiently waiting outside lol.

I left with Agnes, Catfish, and Lynn. It was 9.45 pm when we took off and we still needed to pick up Van who lives in Sunnyvale. I know, we were super late for the party and we only had two more hours to have fun before the committee had to wrap it up.
Time to have some fun!
Basically I'm just going to post the pictures and maybe put captions on some of them.

ISV forms a dance circle yeah!

Later on, I met my two Indonesian friends, Jessica and William, who were apparently surprised to see me in this kind of occasion. At one point, some random guy led the entire invitees to dance along with him, kind of like a mass aerobic session. The movements reminded Jessica, William, and me of poco poco dance. Weirdly enough, three of us tried to demonstrate the poco poco dance out of randomness to see if it was similar enough with the dance being led at that time. YOLO.

DAT GAZE!

Barefeet girls!
Our feet ached from jumping on heels!
When we took our heels off and stepped on the wet grass in the chilly night...
IT WAS SO DARN COLD!!!

*seriously I felt my feet were temporarily frozen

Koosha and Cynthia are having so much fun!
(btw, oh hi Erin...*the guy in the back*)

By the way, at one point during the dance, two strange boys came up to me and tried to have some talk with me. One of them whispered to another in a pause, sort of asking him what to ask me. I was so dumb not to realize immediately that they were actually hitting on me and the hints are as follows:
  1. One of them asked me where I got the glowing neon bracelet. I told him to go to the welcome booth at the entrance, but he hesitated to go. I kind of sensed he actually wanted ME TO WALK HIM THERE. dafudge
  2. The same guy asked “Do you have a boyfriend?” I had to say I did so that he didn't hit on me any longer. However, he continued “Are you married?” The fudge dude are you high or something?
  3. The other guy asked “Hey my friend right here doesn't have a date tonight. Do you want to dance with him?” I refused, of course. HELL NO.
  4. When I was about to turn to my friends, one of them stopped me from doing so, saying “Hold on, why are you going to your friends when you have us?” Four words to both of you gentlemen. Go poo your self. Or at least your common sense.
Good thing one of my Indonesian friends came up and handed me the camera (yeah, while I was being interrogated by these two strange guys, my friend borrowed the camera, which might explain why I wasn't on some of the pictures). Weirdly, my friends didn't help me to get away from those guys because they thought those guys were MY FRIENDS.lol

Anyway, I asked my Indonesian friend to distract me and take me away from them. Thank you so much for saving me from these weirdos!

Apparently, I wasn't the only victim. Some of my friends later told me that they bumped into the same guys and explained that they were in their drunken state in the party (despite the event itself prohibits any forms of alcohol). Those guys must have drunken heaps of liquors before entering the party.

Anyway, no more complaints. Let's have some more fun!

Mona and Chika! Two kawaii Japanese girls!

Not sure what Luna tried to do to Channon by placing her hand on his back

The staircase family, with Eric the tallest among all

The party went on and it came to an end at 12. Some people begged the DJ to play some more songs, but once it ends, it couldn't be continued any further. This is not a club in the end. This is a school event, and everything had to go according to its schedule.

So yeah, no encore. Bummer...

The girls I mentioned earlier and I tiptoed all the way to Agnes' car barefeet. We were planning to go to Zoey's house for an afterparty, but the party at Agnes' car was supposed to drop by at Ihop to buy something to eat during the afterparty, while I guess the other party should be buying drinks.

Zoey's house was packed with more than I expected. The later the night got, the more people came to chill and have fun. Some people decided to play some silly game, while I was enjoying myself playing playstation with the other party (I actually played Naruto, which is strangely fun). By the time I needed to go home, the boys switched the game to Winning Eleven. Sometimes, life's totally unfair... -_-

Well, I had a great time overall that night. Yeah, if only I didn't have driving lesson the next day, I would love to stay overnight with a dozen of people in one room.

ORLANDO for winter. pt 9: the tomato soup tragedy

--> Previously: By 9 pm-ish, we caught a taxi back home. A nice Egyptian guy happened to be the driver and we had a good, warm talk along the way back to the hotel. We pretty much didn't do much when we got to the hotel. Elda had to pack and the rest of the night we spent by watching random stuff (like cartoons) to Walt Disney World private channel on TV.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

- DAY 5: DECEMBER 22, 2011 -

With Animal Kingdom concluding our theme park visit euphoria, and Elda leaving early in the morning, Aymee, Ardy, and I basically had nothing much to do for today. We woke up very late the day after Animal Kingdom, around 11 am-ish. By the time we did, Elda already went poof-ed. She must have been en route back to San Jose.

I – particularly – woke up with some back pains and extreme exhaustion. Ardy, Aymee, and I were even awake for less than an hour before we fell back to bed and resumed sleeping until around 2pm.

We didn't have any special plans that day. At first, we were thinking to go to Disney Downtown for a stroll, but seeing it took a specific scheduled shuttle to get there, we cancelled the plan (duh, we totally missed the scheduled shuttle).

At 2, we went downstairs to Savannah Grill to have late lunch. The restaurant was soooooo empty! Well, no wonder, since at this time of the day, all guests must be at an Orlando theme park. We were the only ones stuck at the hotel, not knowing what else to do, suffering out of back pains and aches due to walking and screaming for the past 4 days subsequently.

At the restaurant, we helped ourselves with whatever was available. Aymee and Ardy munched on what I remember sandwiches or burgers, and I helped myself with a tomato soup, cos I felt like eating something liquid-ish and warm.

This isn't the picture I took, but the soup looked like this
http://simplerecipe.net
However, there was a bit problem...well, actually it was quite big. When I was about to garnish some peppers on the soup, the loose lid of the pepper shaker went off, and in the end, I had a huge pile of black pepper on the surface of my soup. When I tried to brush some of the pepper off the soup, I accidentally mixed them altogether in the soup, making the pepper impossible to be removed. Eating it seemed impossible, and I only cringed everytime I had a spoonful of the pepper-ful soup. So Aymee suggested that I shared the soup with her (she also ordered the same thing, but still completely in a good condition).

Anyway, dun dun dun, we did pretty much nothing for the rest of the day. We did take some time watching TV, strolling around the hotel, and looking up for some more restaurant coupons for some cheap deals. We were cheapskate students/tourists lol. After a while, we found out that a nearby restaurant, Golden Corral, offered a decent deal only for that day, where we got $40 for all you can eat! And that's for three of us! So each of us would need to pay roughly $13 for all-you-can-eat type of meals!

Around 7, we walked to Golden Corral, which was located around a block away (remember the street full of restaurants along the way I told you on the first day we got to Orlando?). The line was sooooo long, and most visitors are families. It was a quite crowded restaurant with some stations serving different kinds of food (from Mexican to Salad station). But we managed to dug our way in soon after showing the cashier our discount coupon.
The next hour, don't even bother to ask what happened. We crazily dug into the food. I took rounds and rounds of eating, grabbing as much as possible, from salad, soup, some beef and chicken, spaghetti, and lastly desert (I'm sure I took more than that). Well, I wouldn't to waste $13 for a small amount of everyday meal. By the time I wanted to munch on the last course which is, of course, dessert, my stomach felt like a giant rock. I could barely move lol.

After a while of letting the food sliding down the throat to being digested, Aymee, Ardy, and I were about to take off from the restaurant before realizing that there was a connection door to an adjacent gift store. We went there and looked around for a bit, where I spotted this...

ORLANDO FRIGGIN LOVES ME

Ah well, I ended up not buying it since it was actually a real license plate. The size was unreasonably big to be brought for travel, so I wasn't sure if it was going to fit my bag.

As for the stuff we bought there, I ended up buying two key chains for my friends for a good deal. Even though the quality of the items sold in the gift stores along the road were doubtable compared to the official shops inside the Disney parks, the price isn't kidding. One keychain only reached up to $2 max. Disney parks official keychains can sell up to $6. Speaking of the huge price gap here.

Anyway, from this gift store, we walked our way back home while listening to some faint explosions from the distance following with sparks of faint light. Apparently Magic Kingdom fireworks were on. Oh how I had missed the place even though I just went there like three days before.

We dropped by at 7/11 to buy some snacks and drinks before our flight to New York the next day. I bought myself a cold orange juice that I'd been longing. While waiting for Aymee and Ardy to pick their items, I browsed through the magazine stall before noticing that across the stall itself was a counter to buy the tickets to Disney Parks...at A MUCH LOWER RATE! WTF is this??!! We compared the price of the tickets we bought online to the one sold in this counter. Well, it wasn't that much of the difference, but still...that just hurt me, and that hurt even more when a family of four came to the counter and purchased the tickets T_T

You know what they say, it's no use to cry over a poured milk.

When we were almost back at the hotel, Aymee suddenly decided to drop by at another gift store located exactly outside the parking lot of the hotel (I forgot if I'd mention this before but this gift store was considerably huge with a huge colorful mermaid carving on its walls). The prices of the keychains in the store were even ridiculously much cheaper than the previous store, so I thought of buying some, and this time...more than two.

It was already 11ish pm. The store was quiet as heck and we were like the only customers left. Aymee still had fun digging up some stuff and apparently she determined to find a present for her cousin Nancy, whose birthday would be at the coming weeks. I first thought that Aymee was going to give Nancy something Disney-ish but she ended up buying a miniature of a gold guitar (because Nancy plays that insturment). Well, the miniature wasn't the only items she bought, as when I looked to her shopping basket, she turned out to buy more stuff for her friends and family. How generous of her :)

Seeing it was late and we had a morning flight to catch up tomorrow, without further ado, we went straight back to the hotel and packed. We squeezed all the souvenirs and stuff we bought during our fulfilling days in the Disney parks and Seaworld into our bags. Thank goodness, the common problem usually found while packing to leave – which is overloaded content – didn't occur this time. All things fit perfectly inside the bags!

Okay time to get some sleep. New York awaits tomorrow! :)

Tribute to Ms. Theron

Hi guys, say hi to another post of the weekend! Woot woot!
I'm not going to talk much about my personal life - instead, I'd just like to show you some of the stuffs I've been working on.

Recently, I saw Snow White and the Huntsman. Appearance-wise, the prince was worth the look (although the guy who played in the prince in Mirror Mirror was much yummier). Acting-wise, Ms. Charlize Theron successfully blew my mind, which automatically makes her officially one of my most favorite actresses. As for Chris Hemsworth, it's no surprise that his axe-swinging moves resemble that of his Thor's signature hammer-swinging move.

Kristen Stewart? All I see is Bella Swan in a medieval costume -_-

v.1 Charlize Theron
Making this photo manip was such a pain, considering that I'm running out of battery for my mouse
Designing without a mouse = painting without a brush.

Quotation poster
One of my design weaknesses is always coming up with a crowded composition
This time, I tried to go a bit against my normal standards, hope I pulled it off.

I know, I should be more productive when it comes to designing, seeing that I'm counting down the days to enter an energy-sucking art school. I'm currently still on my steps to develop particularly my Illustrator skills - speaking of avoiding Photoshop for a while.

Next up, I'll be posting up the continuation of Orlando story and probably some good pictures from my New York trip on winter, with slight captions.

Have a great night guys!

Memorable Memorial Day

Wew, it seems like forever since I posted about my personal daily life story. In fact, I've been posting Korean-related issues in 3 posts in a row.

Guess what...
MY CAMERA'S BACK
Oh the joy of having it back...indescribable :'D

Last weekend was a long weekend since Monday was off due to Memorial Day holiday. I didn't do anything much but at least I did a bit of traveling, like on Friday, I went to Davis with my friends to help them hunt an apartment. As for the day after, I literally just confined myself at home (had a little determination to study for Business exam coming up on the week after)

On Sunday, my friend invited me for a BBQ potluck at his residence.
It was a lot of fun! There were people from ISV and from the senate coalition coming together just to celebrate the long weekend, something we rarely have in this college daily life lol. Sounds lame enough?

The first five people who came to the party woot woot
More people came and guess what it means...MORE FOOD! Food was literally all over the place and they keep coming. My friends got some bubble teas, ice creams, beer, ribs, sausages, chicken wings, shrimp, and there were still lots more to gorge. I've never had beer in daytime before, and drinking it feels as good as having it in the nighttime!

Swim time! The BBQ pit where we were throwing a party was right next to a swimming pool. Some fellows had a chance to swim around...but wait till you see the surprise...

Speaking of swimming, well, it's always a fun time to tease some friends of us who went for swimming, since we would get to see them shirtless (it's the same as seeing your every-day-normal-casually-dressed friend at a party where she wears a completely flashy clothing). Back to the event, a friend of mine was cheeky enough to point at my other friend, who obviously seemed embarrassed enough to be seen shirtless (because he was walking around the BBQ pit trying to cover himself with his arms), while saying. "Oh look at you...so fat." We all literally broke into laughter since she said it in a genuine and modest way. lol at you.

Not sure if he's sleeping or just wants to look COOL
I did mention about the surprise right?? And this is what I'm talking about: throwing people to the pool by force YAY!!!

Jihoon, ISV's internal VP, is our first victim.
And look, the girls are the ones doing the job!
The joy of throwing girls so easily to the pool
This time...Zoey...
What's the point of kicking someone who's already in the pool?
An attempt to draw Catfish to the pool
Photobomb level: Siyun eating...

Peeping Catfish...with her action spotted by Siyun from behind.

Photobomb level: Jihoon. lol
More food and BBQ pictures coming!!!
Everybody's having such a good time :)

 Luke...lol
Some guys just can't resist to have a...sort of self-portrait.
So introducing Jack.

This is Jack

More Jack

A group picture! Finally! Only the girls though. lol

Kathe's "mistresses" lol

DAT FACE. LOL
United Nation!
From left to right: Vietnam, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, China, Indonesia
H&M shoe owners UNITE! Wait, since when did we have a Toms?

Kathe shines once more

One of my friends, Amy, reached Kathe's place late, around 2 hours before we all wrapped up. I don't know what got into my other friends' minds are, but by the time Amy slid the door to the BBQ pit open, she was instantly snatched away and plunged into the pool.Poor her...
(Note: she just arrived, she had no idea what was going on, and she didn't even get a chance to munch on the food yet)

Amy looked better moments after she got lent some clothes to change by Kathe
Right after the BBQ - which finished at around 7ish - we wrapped up everything and planned on what we should do next. At first, some of us wanted to go see the fireworks in Golden Gate Bridge, since that day was supposed to be its 75th anniversary, but due to the limited transportation and bunch of people going, and that some people were tired enough to go to a place as far as SF, we thought of hanging around somewhere in the Bay Area. Dropping by at someone's house would be impossible as well since there were 11 of us.

Taken from Maylea's camera

Luke suggested that we went night hiking to Hunter's Point.
Night hiking...hmm sounds legit.

 . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Then it was decided. Some people needed to go home first or dropped by at a friend's house to wait for the meeting time (we were supposed to meet and take off to Hunter's Point hiking range from Lynn's house at 9). Luke, Siyun, and Agnes crashed into my place where I was able to retrieve my flashlight for the hiking. We waited here until 9, which was only a thirty minute of wait before we took off to Lynn's place to meet with others.

I had a bit of noodle shared with some other people at Lynn's just before we left. Zoey made the noodle for us, and I'm telling you, she's such a fine cook! She added some leftover kimchi to the noodle, which literally turned the once-so-plain noodle into a distinctive flavor of kimchi!

Lynn and Zoey were also kind enough to lend some of us some socks and unclosed shoes (sneakers and sport shoes mostly), because some people like me weren't prepared for hiking and seeing that the plan came up all of a sudden.

Anyways, around 11 of people took off from Lynn's all the way to Hunter's Point.

Darn it was REALLY DARK in the parking lot! It took me a moment to realize that I've been there before, for an environmental science field trip. However, of course, I went there on a fine daytime, not in a pure darkness like this. There was no light at all, and I got a bit crept out. At first, I kinda thought hiking in the night was illegal, but Luke said it's been a normal situation for some people who loved hiking here, so this activity should be safe.

Everyone paired up to climb up to the Hunter's Point, our ultimate destination of the day.
I paired up with Siyun, equipped ourselves with the flashlight I picked up at home, whom I thought she was going to be a safe partner, not until she said "Wooo it reminds me of a scene in Cabin in the Woods!" excitingly. She didn't stop torturing me and Luke (who walked right behind Siyun and me) with her horror stories threat.... -_-

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Once we got there, I thought we would only take a quick moment of taking pictures, but apparently the stay got a bit longer than expected. Even much to my surprise, we ended up drinking some beer and chocolate milk. By midnight, we cheered because for some guys in the senate coalition, midnight marks the closing of the voting. I crossed my fingers for everyone in the coalition to pass the election and achieve their desired senate positions :) They all worked so hard during the campaign days.

These pictures were not really clear, because I was trying out the flash feature of my camera phone, and it worked!

Before we left, Kathe suggested that we played a little game where everyone should team up and come up with a song to dance too. Haha, this is probably the most random game I've ever played,. The chilly air only made the dance movements better, as the spontaneous trembles eventually leads to some random dance movements. Apparently some people decided to do that to brush off the chilly feeling, which is a nice idea :)

Siyun and I paired up again. I forgot what we danced to. Well, it was some random techno music, the one that you often hear in nightclubs. The game later ended with everyone of us dancing randomly to shuffled techno music. Some guys swung the flashlights and phone lights all over place to make a nightclub vibe (yeah the dark little clearing on top of the hill abruptly turned into a mini outdoor nightclub. Fyi, the temperature was approx. 13 degrees celcius ~_~)

I was more worried that the swinging lights will attract mountain lions, since I noticed a mountain lion warning sign somewhere on my previous visit to Hunter's Point.

Best picture of the day. Four "ghosts" spotted here:
The transparent ones: Channon, Eric
The head-biting one: Catfish
The floating head illusion: Lynn
Amy: oh look, it's a bird, no it's a plane, no it's...KATHE!

On the way back to the parking lot, Kathe told everyone to shut off the flashlights. I was like WTF, that's going to be hella dangerous. Apparently, the later the night gets, the crazier people get. I hoped some people who came up with this idea were still in their sober state so their logic could still work out on them. The plan didn't work out though, as it was inevitable for us not to turn on the flashlights. i mean IT WAS SOOO DARK!!! Climbing down the path was certainly hazardous, no matter how mild the terrain really was.

Well, that was the end of our crazy memorial day holiday, where it began with a BBQ and ended up with some crazy adventure in the darkness of the wild (sounds dramatic enough). We all went back to our homes.

Catch you guys later!^^
