Trip to Taiwan - Part 3

Eighth day: June 28, 2010 (Taipei - Taichung)

Today we were heading back to Taichung. Possibly it'd sound pretty boring to you, since we were going back and forth from Taipei to Taichung and otherwise. Our trip today opened with a visit to Hey Song Museum. Hey Song is a famed Taiwanese brand of food and beverages that had made its way worldwide. It was a nice museum with pretty things on display, not just some items related to the product but also accessories that used to become free souvenirs back when the product was having a promotion.

At the end of our visit, we got to watch Hey Song commercials. It was hilarious!!

In the afternoon, our buses headed towards the mountains and made their stop at an isolated village surrounded with tropical forests. Heck I had no idea where we were, but I had a feeling it'd be a fascinating place of interest. Well, it was a hot day and everybody put on their umbrellas and caps. We even had to climb up to our destination because the buses couldn't get to it. Exhausting, indeed.

Turned out that we arrived at a small cottage and we were to be seated according to our chairmates in dinner and lunch. Look what we finally got to do there: we would be making Hakka traditional tea! I didn't know much about Hakka apart from it being a native tribe of Taiwan.

See, we were blending all the ingredients in one giant pot. The ingredients include beans, peanuts, peas, and they needed to be smashed till they became what would look like powder. Took a hella of time!

Smash it up!

Voila :D

It tasted sweet and sour, the kind of mixture taste. But it tasted more like a mung bean juice instead (since we were blending a lot of beans and stuff).

Aside of making our own Hakka traditional tea, we even got to make our own mochi. Nothing traditional-ish about this mochi. It's the kind of mochi you see and eat occassionally. Still, it tasted good!

At Taichung, upon arrival, we dropped by at a huge supermarket (resembling Giant or Carrefour here) recommended by Lao Shi.

The items were surprisingly cheaper than ones we bought in 7-Eleven! Even when we just stepped into the supermarket, Bonamana MV on the screen on the DVD section near the entrance welcomed us! LOL. Anyway, we ended up buying lots of food, especially the ones we were going to eat later at the hotel (we were dead starving since the food we ate earlier at the restaurant on the way to Taichung wasn't to our satisfaction).

Once we arrived at the hotel and was about to make our instant noodles, reality hit us since we didn't have the chopsticks! (7-Eleven's cashiers usually gave chopsticks for those who bought instant noodles). As a result, we decided to go to a restaurant near the hotel (with the noodle's bowl we were carrying all around) and had Lao Shi to ask some pairs of chopstick for us. Aww...
