Unified Diversity Soup



Surprised to see the new layout? Took me like 2 days to finish it off. But yay, I'm satisfied because I finally did something out of Illustrator and it turns out to be a vector art :D

Anyway, you remember that I mentioned about Julie and Julia movie yesterday, don't you? I became quite inspired by it and the fact that I finally resumed blogging is because of it. But it wasn't just it. Yesterday, I decided to restrain my craving of L&L's Loco Moco and cook instead. This time though, I was going to make a documentary out of it. This recipe is nothing new to me, but I thought I'd share it with you, especially if you happen to be busy college students who don't want to spend money for take-outs but you have left-over ingredients.



I know a soup can be made in many different ways but here's how I made my common soup. I learned it out of nowhere just when I took off to study in US. I didn't really cook back in Indonesia and my mom suggested that if I didn't know what to cook, just put some veggies and meat in and create your own mix. So I did it and it actually worked!

As for the name, I don't really have a proper name for my own soup, but if I have to name it, I'd call it Unified Diversity. In my Design class, it actually refers to a composition made out of grid, but of course, my food doesn't have anything to do with grid. I took out the literal meaning of Unified Diversity, which might refer to putting various and diverse things to create a unity. Hope that explains...?

So without further ado, here we go!!!

UNIFIED DIVERSITY SOUP
Level: Easy
Duration: 20-60 minutes
Materials:
• Pot
• Ladle
• Bowl
• Spoon 
Ingredients: 
Vegetables:
• Carrots
• Green onion
• Cabbage
• Potatoes
(if you have more, you can add them) 
Meat:
• Beef meatball
• Beef franks
• Fish cake
Condiments:
• Oil
• Salt
• Pepper
• Minced garlic
• Soup instant seasoning

Steps:

1. Chop the necessary meat and all vegetables into pieces. Leave the meatball as is. 

2. After that, prepare the pot and place all the chopped ingredients into the pot. Be careful not to overflow the pot with your ingredients. In order to avoid the overflow, you can save the remaining ingredients that you haven't put in for the second batch. 
If everything fits into the pot, then you're good. You just have to watch over it when it boils in the latter because, even though everything fits, the boiling effect will cause all the ingredients to overflow.
3. Pour water in according to the size of the pot. Again, be considerate with the measurement. Six to eight cups of water should do it.
4. Put the temperature from medium to high

5. Put a considerate amount of oil into your pot. Stir it.

6. Salt plays an important part in deciding whether your soup tastes good. So don't forget to put that in.

7. In order to strengthen the taste, put pepper as well. I usually use white pepper in my meal, but black pepper should do it. You may put in any kinds of pepper or seasoning that you believe will make your soup taste better.
8. Add minced garlic as well, again, to push the tastiness to the fullest.


9. Now we're going to deal with the instant seasoning. Actually, you can skip this step if you're comfortable enough with using salt, pepper, and garlic as the basic condiments. I tend to mix my soup in with instant seasoning just for personal reason.

10. After you're done mixing everything, close the pot with the lid and leave it until it boils. That should be about 15-20 minutes especially if you put the stove on high.

11. While waiting, prepare the rice on a bowl. Just enough amount, not too much because you're going to pour the soup and everything in it on top of the rice

12. Okay, so you've been waiting for 15-20 minutes as I told you and you heard the boiling sound coming up from the kitchen. It means your soup is ready! Grab a ladle and stir some more. Then lower the heat if you think your soup is tasty enough and your meat as well as vegetable are fully cooked.


13. Pour the soup on top of your rice along with its content. Serve it while it's hot. Enjoy!!
