Trick or Treat

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
So let's better prepare our scariest costume yet and wear it!

Okay, I may not have any good costumes to wear or any Halloween parties to attend or even candies to give away to children knocking on your door, saying "Trick or Treat" (after all, we don't really celebrate Halloween in Indonesia, do we? ^_^).

But at least, I have these two cool imaginary Halloween costumes. If only I could really wear these things below *sigh*

My Birthday Bash

I'm so sorry for the poor quality pictures. These were taken by my aunt, not by my dad (who used my digital camera). Anyway it was a great night, unfortunately I had a fever that day but thanks to the company of all my friends, I felt better since the occasion.

~The Story~

Since I have this quirky storytelling habit, I can't help but at least to tell you a bit about how my birthday was. After all, I don't think the pictures above could quite explain much about the situation. The Birthday was planned approximately two weeks before the D-Day and at the beginning, I already planned that the occasion should be held on the closest weekend after my birthday.

My
Birthday is actually on the 23rd of October, so the closest weekend prior to that day is exactly the day after the 23rd itself, which is the 24th of October. So, after the date was set, it was time for me to choose the venue. I suggested some restaurants that provide special birthday occasion, like Tamani Cafe and I also recommended one of the venues that provides cool atmosphere for holding a birthday occasion, which is JustSteak. My mom eventually called the restaurant and booked for the 24th.

Later, my Math course teacher - Ci Christine - who really put a lot of effort and hardwork to make it all happen (huge credit to you!), offered herself to become the event organizer of this occasion, for free!! (Still, this part is a bit unbelievable, considering the phrase 'There's nothing free anymore in Jakarta'.) But her presence and her offer were like an oasis (fine, lebay). She told me that she was about to pursue a career in event organizing and currently she was making up a portfolio. And this project, my occasion, would be her first project for her portfolio, that's why she didn't put any charges for my occasion.

Therefore, the concept was finally being made. Since I'm not really a party hype, so I told her that my occasion wasn't to be referred as a party, but a gathering or dinner instead. It wouldn't be like a normal sweet seventeen standing party, but like an ala carte dinner. Ci Christine eventually managed to call a friend of hers, who had this talent as a party host, to be part of the gathering, and also a friend of hers to become her assistant.

Oh, and I also made the invitations by myself, and gave them out to my friends. Not to mention, I invited my old friends to attend my event online via Facebook (you don't know how I really thank this social networking site. It really deserves a credit too). So everyday, I managed to spend some time looking up to my event page to stay updated with the RSVP, which kept increasing day by day!

On 16th of October, exactly the day before Tarphrodite and a week before the event, I managed myself to leave Senayan (the school event's venue) at 9 pm to JustSteak for an appointment with Ci Christine and her friends participating in my event. Together, she made a rough draft of table arrangements, the decorations, and the run down.

Well, actually before the D-day, I was surprised to know that apparently, on the 24th, there were around 4 birthday parties held by my friends, in different places of course, but almost at the same time. But luckily, the other three of my friends were not really close friends, so surely they invited friends that weren't so close to me either. Actually, there were three rumored parties at first. My event, and my two other friends' parties, who were not my close friends. But then, two days before the 24th, a friend of mine gave out invitations of her surprise party, inviting all the 12th graders. That was when I was worried if my friends would be more interested to go to that party, since it had doorprize of Blackberry, inviting Ecoutez to perform (can.you.even.believe.it???), and held in a five star hotel's ballroom? While my party - well, it was not even a party - was much simpler than the others' posh parties?

But luckily, all my friends have RSVPed and still confirmed that they would still attend my gathering. Thank you guys!!! I really appreciate that!!

The 23rd passed smoothly, with smooches and wishes from all my friends, relatives, and teachers (it was funny how my best friend called out teachers in the corridor saying 'Ma'am, today is Carissa's birthday!' then those teachers approached me one by one and wished me a happy birthday. It was really memorable!).

But on the 24th, I was shocked by something I found out when I just woke up: I had a fever *scary music effect*. In the morning, I had a Math course with Ci Christine first and during the course, I could even hardly concentrate, realizing how bad the fever and its effect were. That moment, I could do nothing but to apologize Ci Christine that I couldn't concentrate. Even though I couldn't read minds, but I could tell that she - too - was worried if the event she and her friends and also my parents had organized all along, would be cancelled due to my current condition. But then she suggested that I should sleep all afternoon until 3 o'clock, where I would be preparing for the event, so that I could save my energy, and also she suggested me to drink up some medicines to keep me fit, or at least make me look healthy during the event (no, it's not like drugs. The pills were only Panadol, after all).

So, I did what she said. After she left at 9, I slumped myself on the bed and continued to sleep until 3, where I woke up and found myself getting better. The fever decreased and I started to pick a dress, did the finishing touch for my slideshow video, and went to a salon for a hair do.

Finally, I reached JustSteak exactly on 5.30. Then I helped Ci Christine do the decorations. Finally at 6, guests started coming (the freshmen came first!) and then my cousins, that were planned to help Ci Christine in welcoming guests, came.

And as for the rest of the story? Well, you can tell from the pictures. The guests reached up to 40 (more than the target!) and the dinner went smoothly just like the concept (my concept was having this looooong table for everyone to have their dinner, instead of some small separate tables, sorry I forgot to tell you the concept earlier). What was really impressive from this event was, the element of gathering itself, because my elementary school friends could make friends with my high school friends, exchanging phone numbers, and together they participated in funny games!

Even though my feet started to ache due to the ever so painful high heels I wore, I could get over it. And even, I got a surprise guest, who turned out to be my violin teacher himself. He performed some songs with fellow musicians and music teachers from Yamaha. But, it's just, I didn't expect he would be there, as I didn't even tell that the day before (the 23rd was on Friday) I had my violin lesson. Well, I guess it was part of my dad's plan to surprise me. Thanks dad.

The event soon ended at 10, the time when all guests had left. That was the moment when my fever started to increase, again. Ugh. I myself left at 11 along with Ci Christine, her friends, and the fellow musicians (Kak Wisnu - my violin teacher, Ramdan the violinist, Malvin the singer, and Febian the keyboardist, and not to mention my dad was the pianist, again, forgot to mention about that earlier).

Aanndd...that was all I could say about my memorable sweet seventeen moment. It was simple, but it really had a warm, family-ish atmosphere, without DJ or ajojing moment. The music was cool, calm, and relaxing. At first, I planned to attend my friend's party (the one held in the five star ballroom and invited Ecoutez). I knew it was late, but the invitation said that the party ended at the break of dawn, meaning I could still at least go there and have a look. But I was too tired, and so were my friends, and I just decided to go home. So...my next destination was definitely, the bed itself.

So, all I can say is, it's good to finally turn seventeen, the legal age in this country. Soon I'm going to have my ID card and also my driving license!

Thanks God for giving me a chance to finally turn seventeen, mom and dad for raising me, I know I've been quite a bad girl, hehe, Ci Christine for being the best EO ever, Beben for hosting the show and games, Jenny for helping the decorations, my cousins for SUJU CD and welcoming guests, and last but not least, to all my friends for the wishes, for completing my sweet seventeen moment, and for the lovely presents!! (Oh, and as for the presents, they are all soooo awesome and I love them all! Ranging from Super Junior CD, books, to Mr. Bean's nodding action figure! So cute!!)

Kami Bukan Tikus

By Carissa Atrianty

Hei kawan
Ada sesuatu yang ingin kutanya
Tahukah engkau apa itu tikus?

Lalu engkau jawab,
Oh tikus itu hewan kecil
Suka berdiam di lubang-lubang rumah
Atau bersembunyi di kotornya got

Lanjut engkau,
Oh tikus itu hewan kotor
Keju busuk dan sampahpun
Dimakannya

Lanjut engkau,
Oh tikus itu hewan yang dibenci
Kehadirannya tak diinginkan manusia
Begitu jijik mereka selalu muak melihat tikus

Lanjut engkau,
Oh tikus itu hewan yang tak berdaya
Betapa rapuh dan lemahnya mereka
Tak usah kau gunakan racun
Diinjakpun mereka sudah mati

Tetapi,
Tahukah engkau, wahai kawan?
Bahwa seekor tikus kecilpun
Memiliki harapan besar
Untuk dikenal, disegani, diakui
Disayang sebagaimana ia memiliki majikan
Layaknya manusia
Yang memanjakan kucing-kucing mereka

Tahukah engkau, wahai kawan?
Tikus-tikus ini ingin berseru
Namun suara cit-cit mereka
Hanya akan diabaikan

Tahukah engkau, wahai kawan?
Kami pun juga begitu
Kami mungkin kecil
Tapi dengarkanlah suara cit-cit kami
Kami tak tinggal di got
Kami tak makan keju buangan
Kami tak kotor atau jijik

Tahukah engkau kawan?
Kami tak seperti yang engkau kira
Karena,
Kami bukan tikus

Kosong

By Carissa Atrianty

Ruangan ini begitu kecil
Begitu pengap
Debu menutupi lantai
Masuki paru-paru

Gelap
Aku buta karenanya
Dinding-dinding ini begitu tinggi
Jendela tertutup
Seperti mendung menghalangi surya
Percuma saja tangan kecil ini menggapainya
Membuka mendung itu

Namun sia-sia saja
Aku pun terjatuh,
Terjatuh
Di lubang yang rasanya tak berdasar

Saat kubuka mata
Ruangan kecil inilah yang kembali menyambutnya
Sial
Ingin rasanya otot-otot ini merenggang
Berhenti untuk tegang

Tak terasa
Ruangan ini terasa semakin sempit
Pita suaraku tertahan, terdorong
Isi otakku ingin keluar
Jantungku berdetak tak keruan
Seolah, badan ini tahu apa yang kurasakan

“Tolong aku!”
Namun tak seorang pun mendengar
Tebalnya dinding nan mendung meresap suaraku
Ruangan ini semakin sempit
Menghimpit tubuh kecilku

“Tolong aku!”
Suaraku hilang ditelan udara
Tak pekakah telinga mereka?
Telinga yang tersumbat
Oleh bualan-bualan belaka

Perlahan tubuhku hancur dihimpit sang mendung
Lalu hilang, kosong

Poetic much?

That's right...I'm being so poetic these days.

I don't know why, but maybe some of you know that poem is definitely something that I really suck at. I can't write it and I can't even read it. Well, I have this funny yet embarrassing story of me reading out a poem and to tell the truth, it was actually a sad one. So you can imagine someone reading it out with a sad expression and a kind of voice that will strike you as if 'the reader almost cries reading it', and even some sobbing effect (it can be either fake or the reader really gets touched with the poem). A poem reader that can really mix the feel of the poem with her feeling, and even transfer it to the facial expression, is obviously considered as a good poem reader.

But what about me?

I'm totally different from what you think. The thing is, I always happen to laugh whenever the poem is sad. There are three reasons and indications why, and I can't still figure it out:

1. I laugh at my silly facial expression, that's because I always fail at making sad, almost-crying kind of expression, instead ends up making silly, soap-opera-ish expression.

2. I laugh at the poem itself. Either when I read out the poem, suddenly the thought of "This poem doesn't sound sad at all, instead, it sounds very silly" pops out in my head or the poem could be written by me (laughing at the silliness of the poem created by myself)

3. Reading out a poem requires a high intonation and some stresses in some parts of the poem. For example, when one part of the poem says "The war that rages in my heart" requires a high intonation, instead my voice would squeak in that part. Again, I always fail at making a convincing, high intonation.
And these three statements have been confirmed by my friends and even my literature teacher. They do acknowledge my flaws in poem. In fact, the latest news is, I was offered to join a German Poem Reading competition by my German teacher. She handed me over the poem for me to read it and of course, I couldn't understand it. Well, I did understand some words, but I doubt the meaning of the whole poem.

I was kind of hoping it wouldn't be a sad poem, because if yes, well, I doubt my performance would be really convincing. Besides, who wants to deal with sad facial expressions? That's the most difficult facial expression to make, after all.

Well, well, I guess I talked too much. Without further ado, I give you....my poems!!! (see my next posts). They're not the best, compared to Dewi Lestari's or WS Rendra's, or, well, don't compare my poems to these professional poets. Even my poems are not better than a friend of mine. She really is a true poet, and you can see her blog listed under my 'Les Amis' section.

Anyway, the poems I'm about to show you are made for my literature assignment. Actually I wrote them to be published on the class' magazine and in fact, the magazine only needs one poem per student. But turns out I made two of them (inspiration comes at any time, anywhere, and I can't stop it from flowing ^_^).

But those two poems are definitely what I'm most proud of these days. :) So enjoy the poems.

The Cutest Coat Everrrr

Isn't it adorableeeee???? Found this on Polyvore though

TARPHRODITE WAS A HUGE SUCCESS

I know I've never mentioned about this on the blog, stupid me >_<>

Well, before the D-day of the event, my friends all suggested (or shouted) that everyone at school should advertise the event in any kind of ways, whether by mouth, sticking the poster on the car window, tagging random friends' names on Facebook, or posting on the blog. The last option seemed to have just popped in my mind recently. I know it's too late, but...it's never to late to show something gorgeous to other people. :D

I'm not going to tell the story today, but one thing I'd like to comment in this post: TARPHRODITE WAS DEFINITELY AWESOME!! Thumbs up to all Tarakanita's tough girls for making dreams come true (boasting my school. haha) and also for all people who have attended. Thank you all so much for your participation and also for making Tarakanita's this year's event a huge success. And especially for Tarki 2010. You guys are wonderfully amazing!!

Stories about Tarphrodite coming soon...

My Pieces of Digital Artworks

Yes...finally my PC is back to life!! Sorry for those who have been wondering where I've been. I finally got my textures (excluding the brushes) restored to my folder. Well, not exactly restored.

The repair, which took nearly two weeks, apparently wiped out all my data and files. That's the bad news. But the good news, with my textures restored, my muse in graphic design also resurrected! Although this time I choose not to do requests on signatures and avatars for my online friends, only temporarily though. I need more time to prepare and restore more textures until I can do that kind of requests again. For your info, I've done over fifty requests and my costumers (which are my online friends) are very fond of my works! Their support really brought up a motivation for me to improve my works even better.

Lately, I'm planning to hold a birthday dinner (not a party) and I'm proud to say that I finally could come up with a real artwork (which is not for online purpose, but for real one). Take a look at these pictures below and let me know what you think.

Anyway, I've kept my graphic works requested by my friends here, in this essential online portfolio called Photobucket ^_^. Most of my friends requested me to make them signatures for RPG forums, so you can see that my portfolio is divided according to the websites' names.

So these are what I could come up with for my birthday invitation. I made them into two: print-out invitation (two sides of page) and a flyer to tag in Facebook (online purpose). For your info, I'm an amateur graphic design, so the idea about how I can blend things, add textures, and recognize the colors came up on its own, mostly inspired by my online friends' works and I decided to give it a try through a lot of experimenting. Though amateur works are never perfect. Even now, I'm still learning, browsing for more textures, brushes, learning more than just photo manipulations, and even looking for more challenging tutorials.

I don't know if I'm aiming graphic design to be my future career. I'm more interested in animation though. But, I think it's better to prepare things as early as I can, so who knows I'll change my mind later. For now, graphic designer is my sidejob (considering my online friends requesting me to make them graphics), though of course, a student, I still am (talking in Yoda mode).

Also, my math tutor is also planning to start her career as an Event Organizer. I'm offering myself to be some kind of her assistant, especially when it comes to invitations. Wish me luck, guys! ^_^
